Our regular all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurant! The staff is super nice and friendly to the kids! The food comes out fast and tastes great! Just last time we visited, we were a bit surprised by the low quality seaweeds in the rolls (something tasted different than usual), but the rest of the sushi and other dishes are always great. ?

Kid-friendliness: Yes! Servers are nice to accommodate small children!

Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, accessible main door & washroom.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant for my birthday. It was a total disappointment. The waiter forgot my order and I felt like he ignored us as we asked for and received the drinks menu and he never came back to get the order for the entire night... Waste of time.

I recently visited with high expectations, having enjoyed other locations in the past. Unfortunately, this experience fell short on every level. The rice in every dish tasted watered down, which was extremely off-putting—I've had better sushi from a gas station. This was the worst sushi I’ve ever had ever, literally.

The fried wontons were served cold in the middle, and the overall flavor profile felt diluted with water, leaving me quite grossed out. Soya sauce was overly salty, almost like this was all planned out to complement their watery tasting sushi.

Additionally, not very accessible; there was no ramp for wheelchairs or strollers, and the automatic door at the entrance didn’t function. This visit was ultimately disappointing, and I won’t be returning.

Wheelchair accessibility: No ramp, accessibility function for front door out of order

I’ve been to this location quite a few times, slowly I started noticing a decline in food and service. I wasn’t too impressed, however, I went again because my sister requested it for her birthday dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi was very fresh and delicious. I find the rolls here the perfect size. All the asian dishes we ordered were very good as well. The portions are a good size for everyone to share. Many vegan and vegetarian options. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. The servers were attentive and quickly cleared away our dishes. We were served sushi rolls we didn’t order and they took them away without any trouble. They even gave us plates and forks for my sister’s birthday cake we brought in. Other than the “robot server” which is annoying as heck. Yes, I have a grudge, it’s a great restaurant to get delicious all you can eat sushi.

Review: I agree, they don't want you to have people in your party having two different menus. Obviously, they think you are going to take advantage of the AYCE menu. Sadly, it may have happened so they don't want people taking advantage, but you have to separate your party to do this? I agree with another Reviewer here that it's not fair.
Recent visit, the server argued about this, you can't have two different menus (A la carte) or (AYCE).
Food took a while to arrive. Even if they use a robot to bring it to your table.
Soup was awful!! The won ton soup used to be amazing. Now they buy the frozen prepared ones. It's like eating a chunk of playdoh. Broth has no taste at all.
The miso soup had no taste either, like warmed up water. Another Reviewer here stated the same thing.
Salad was drenched in dressing, barely any vegetables. Lettuce looked like it was thrown in without any care.
Either new cooks or poor management. This wasn't the case before.
Service was not friendly at all. They are keen to clear plates and drop cutlery on the floor when requested. It feels as if they want you to eat fast and leave. Yet you are waiting for your food to come???!!
They were only friendly when you are paying your bill and keep an eye on you when you type in the tip amount or percentage.
This location of Makimono has gone downhill. Sadly, they must have new management that doesn't care about it's service, food or atmosphere. They have total control in their hands to do better. Don't think we will return to this location again.
I hope management reads this review because it is similar to the other reviews that mention the same categories.
Do better! You charge enough to do so!! Shameful!

It's ridiculous to think that a family of four has to either order the all you can eat or from the menu. You all have to order the same thing, unless you split up and sit at different tables.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. I don't live in Durham but every time I go, I try to eat here. Food is very good and lunch is reasonably priced. They have robots bring your food now which is cool. Been going here for years now. It's a great place for lunch

I usually do online order from here when i’m craving asian cuisine. They aren’t bad… but last time I ordered their miso soup it tasted horrible. As an asian cuisine your signature soup is usually Miso Soup but how can you mess that up? as well as their beef it’s been tasting weird lately.
