I ordered a two-tier cake from this bakery for my engagement on June 21st. While the cake was fresh and tasted absolutely delicious, several service issues left me disappointed and unlikely to return or recommend them.
Two days before pickup, I called to ask if it was possible to add some additional piping to the cake. I made it clear that I was happy to pay extra and wasn’t asking for anything to be changed or redone-just an addition. I was previously told the cake wouldn’t be made until the day before pickup, so it seemed like a reasonable request. Unfortunately, I was told that no changes could be made to “keep things consistent.” While I understand needing cutoffs, this felt unnecessarily rigid. With a bit of effort, the extra piping could’ve easily been accommodated.
A bigger issue was the writing. While ordering, I had specifically asked for silver cursive piping on the cake itself that said “engaged” to match a vintage theme I was looking forward to as it’s a current trend. Instead, I received a silver cardstock topper with a ring, which changed the look entirely and left my fiance and I disappointed. What surprised me most was that, after refusing a minor addition for the sake of consistency, they made a major design change without any prior notification. I believe some compensation would be appropriate because I did not receive what I ordered.
Pickup also lacked care. My brother picked up the large, two-tier cake, and while I understand they may not have a box big enough, the open box was not even wrapped for protection during transport which felt careless given this was such a big occasion. He also mentioned that no one helped him with the door despite seeing him struggle with the open box, which, again, felt careless and inattentive.
Overall, while the cake and piping work were high quality, the poor communication, lack of flexibility, and inattentive service made this an underwhelming experience and did not leave me feeling like a valued customer.

I bought my birthday cake from here for the first time and I am overly impressed. I ordered a lemon flavoured cake with lemon filling and it was super moist! All my guests at my birthday party enjoyed it and my picky mother. I would definitely order and recommend. And they are very reasonable!!!!!!!!!! 10/10!!!!!

Ordered a golf themed cake for my husband's surprise party. First the person I spoke to on the phone was not at all friendly.
The cake I ordered was a slab cake, decorated as a golf course, marble cake with butter cream frosting.
The cake was beautifully decorated 10/10 but the flavour was completely flavourless -some parts of the cake were more chocolate looking (not tasting) and most was white. The cake was completely tasteless and the frosting was that super-sweet birthday cake icing that you get from a grocery store cake. I wouldn't be suprised if the slab was purchased somewhere and they simply decorated it.
NOT worth the $135 that I paid for it, not even close. Pretty but looks are definitely deceiving. The ONLY reason they are getting 2 star is for the decorating - the rest is a big ZERO. I emailed them with this exact feedback a day after the party (6 days ago now) and have not heard one word back. I'll never order from them again!

I actally had a sponge not the cake. For some reason there was no filling or any cream inside. Even through the price was 65cad. But the picture on top was good. Not sure why its so pricey. I also didnt like someone was a bit rude to me on the phone, saying I was talking over them. Need to improve customer service and communication skills. I understand its a bisy place, but communication is the key. When we were picking it up, there was a problem to find a ready made cake, I thought they lost it or didnt make it. We were asked to pick it up at certain time. Still dissapointed over the fact that its not the cake, but only sponge. Not a pleasant surprise.

I called you thrice on this given number after sending you 3 emails and you are wayyyy too rude to say you dont see any email inspite of your response to my email saying call us back AND YOU cut the call on the face with no response acting like as though it was a blank call and as though you cant hear me or see my email.
I took patience to call you and send email and follow up with you despite reading negative comments reviews about you and bam there you go!! You proved it!
I run a business too and this is the cheapest way to deal with customers! This is my first ever negative review on google, ive had unpleasant experiences at places but this one pissed me off.

Absolutely fantastic !!! Sugar chalet exceeds our expectations every time . The attention to detail and the expertise in the decorating is outstanding, not only that , but the cakes are so very delicious . Thank you Joey and your team of bakers . Sugar Chalet is a 5 star business all around .

I ordered a cake from here and picked it up in December. Unfortunately the party it was for was cancelled so I had to store this huge 2-tiered cake in my freezer. The party finally happened in March so I took out the cake and hoped that it would be okay and honestly - it tasted as if it were baked that morning. You would have had no idea it was frozen for 3 months if I didn't tell anyone. Very impressed with the quality! I will definitely be ordering all future cakes from here!

We had come into the store and placed an order with Joey (whom was friendly and helpful) for a 50th anniversary cake that was 2 tier When we cut into the cake there was not the raspberry filling as requested and ordered. Very disappointed as this was an important detail. Sent message to store no response. We spent $275 on a cake that my parents requested for a detail that meant something to them didn't happen.
