The service could of been more inviting and friendly. Weird vibe between the 2 people working and made it very uncomfortable.

For starters my friends and I are locals of Parry Sound and have been going to this cafe for the majority of our lunches and breakfasts. So this case was definitely surprising to us. We arrived for breakfast around 10am, and was told that it would be awhile until we got menus. It fairly busy (clearly tourists) and there were only 2 servers so we weren’t too bothered by the wait. We ordered 3 waters and 1 lemonade, it took about 20 minutes for us to get waters and when we asked for the waters and that it’s been awhile we weren’t apologized too or barely even acknowledged. We got the waters 10 minutes later and the water was luke warm with no ice. We finally got menus (despite of seeing other tables eating their food and having the menus sitting on the table). A table of 3 (again clearly tourists) came in 10 minutes after us and got their hot drinks AND food before us. We finally get our order taken (at this point it’s been about 30 minutes of waiting). The majority of the breakfast items weren’t available (even the omelets but scrambled eggs were available?). The food was inedible. This was surprising to us because again we’ve went to this cafe numerous times and the food was great. I ordered the eggs Benedict with pulled pork bacon. The potatoes we’re incredibly dry and unseasoned, the eggs “Benedict” had an off color and looked like it was sitting out for a long time. My egg was hard boiled, the pulled pork bacon tasted like tough dry meat. My friend ordered waffles and they were incredibly dry too. My other friend ordered an apple oatmeal that barely had any apples (the friend who ordered the waffles had more apples on his side). My other friend ordered the eggs Benedict and it was the same quality as mine. The food tasted like our order was forgotten and just sitting in the back. I told the server that I couldn’t eat and pay for that and told her that I understand completely that it wasn’t her fault at all. My friend reluctantly ate their meals. When we went to pay we had asked if there would be some kind of discount because of the quality of the food and service and when she asked what was wrong, we stated every problem we had from the moment we walked in. As well as the fact that the table that came in after us got served before us and got their food and drinks before we did. Mind you when we seen their food it DID NOT look like ours, more effort was for sure put into theirs. She tells us “you know how it is in here”, and we looked at her questioned and I told her “but they got served before us”. I also explained that the water was luke warm. She told me “we ran out of ice” then said I “I wouldn’t have gotten a water if I had known the ice machine was down”. At this point we are getting frustrated. I also explained that while our food was supposed to be being made the chef was making herself a drink. The server says to me “we have no fan back there and it’s hot”, the drink the chef got was a hot steaming tea. She then said to my friend (my friend used to work at this establishment) “ you’re always so rude when you come in here and you never tip”. Yes ladies and gentleman, this server told us that we never tip. MIND YOU I tipped the DAY BEFORE when getting my lemonade. But also my friend just recently worked there, why would she tip somewhere she worked? We looked at her genuinely confused on why she said that. This is when the situation got out of hand and we said defamatory things about the owner and the server told us to leave. Safe to say I will never go to Oakcrest again nor will I ever recommend it.

First I want to mention I am one of the strongest small business supporters I know of. I go out of my way to spend money with local entrepreneurs over chains when I can, my 10 year old son and I were in Parry Sound and tried to support this establishment for a late 10am breakfast, when we arrived we were not greeted initially, once we were seated it took 15 minutes to get a menu and order drinks another 15 minutes to order our food. We waited a full 1 hour after our initial order and while looking around at the restaurant and wondering what was actually going on as it wasn’t overly busy and they had 4-5 staff by the looks of it, we paid for our drinks and left to go elsewhere with our money. During this wait there was no update on timing, not even making eye contact. I won’t try them again or recommend them. Sorry about the review but I felt compelled to write this.

I can count on one hand the number of reviews I've done in over 6 decades...this one merited a review. Pleasant ambiance and staff, not at capacity. Ordered the Queen's Breakfast. The server advised in advance that the grill was down, so only poached or scrambled eggs (slightly disappointing as I prefer sunny side up, but survivable) so I opted for poached. 45 minutes later (not an intolerable wait depending on staffing issues) my plate arrives with the server now telling me that they ran out of potatoes (surprise!)...so no home fries (which is honestly the whole reason we go out for Sunday breakfast), but a smattering of fruit now sits in its lieu. Only 2, not the accepted minimum 3, slices of bacon. The toast is so cold the butter won't melt. The worst breakfast I've had in recent memory, and I think that I probably lost weight eating it.

The tables were not cleared from previous patrons and only seemed to be cleared once new people sat at them. Only half the tables were occupied. The food was okay but not fantastic. I was left underwhelmed by my tomatoe basil flatbread even though the wait staff recommended it. The mushroom soup was good but certainly not worth $12 a bowl. The London fog was very good. I was shocked our bill was $80.80. I wouldn't go back not for the price they charge.

We waited 1.5 hours to have Mac and cheese which is way overpriced for a hamburger bun and noodles and the service was suuuuper slow.Good coffee though.

We heard breakfast at Oakcrest is delicious and hoped to enjoy it after Sunday church. We dropped in after 11am service only to discover they have a strict policy of not serving breakfast after noon hour. It wasn’t long before someone came to our table with lunch menus and we ordered coffee. She did not ask us what kind of coffee we preferred and then took so long to bring the coffee that we almost left. It wasn’t busy (no more than 3 other tables occupied when we arrived at noon) and we felt the delivery of our coffee was a low priority. When it finally arrived, the coffee was delicious! And a nice big cup. The rest of our time there improved as far as the attention we received from our waitress. However, when she returned to take our order, we were disappointed to find they were already sold out of pulled pork. She had to give us a bit more time to choose other items on the menu as I had wanted the pulled pork flatbread, and my husband was hoping for the macaroni and cheese with pulled pork. To my dismay, there were no items on the menu with red meat. If you like chicken or turkey, you would find no problem finding some thing that sounded delicious but I was at a bit of a loss because I’m really not a poultry person. I ended up getting a chicken tacos sandwich which admittedly was tasty and my husband enjoyed his turkey club. We both upgraded to the soup of the day, which was a very delicious mushroom leek cream soup! All in all a very tasty lunch, despite the disappointments. A final suggestion for the restaurant is that no one offered us a top up to our coffee. I’m not sure if we would’ve been charged for a 2nd cup or if it would’ve been complementary but I think we should at least have been asked if we wanted more coffee. I’m uncertain if we will ever return due to the excessive amount of poultry on the menu. It was awfully early in the day to be out of the pork and I am certain there are a lot of diners who feel that you can’t beat roast beef or a good steak sandwich. My husband loves chicken, but he’s like a lot of Parry Sound men who feel the prices are high for a chicken salad sandwich.
