A French boulangerie and sour dough emporium on Hunter St east in Peterborough, a rival to the best Montreal has to offer, and Hard Winter even imports St.Viateur bagels from Montreal while rumoured to have made their own perfected Montreal bagels when they began. The bread line on Saturday morning is legendary worth a short doc. All that might be lacking is a space outside to enjoy tartine with their New Zealand butter and confiture.

The best bakery.
Potato Cheddar Bread? 10/10.
Scones? Name a flavour combo they’ve put together that isn’t the best. You can’t.
Quiche? Perfect for days I skip breakfast.
Brownies? Nothing better.
Staff? Perfection. Fun, kind, attentive.
This place is gold.

Anywhere I travel I like to support the local places. I was on a road trip to Bancroft with my friend and decided to drop in to pick up something for lunch on the road. We picked up a couple of Cheddar Scones, White Sourdough Bread, and a Chocolate Chip Cookie. My friend also bought a bag of Rapids End coffee beans.

We ate the scones on the drive up. They were great but my friend’s scone was underbaked, gooey in the center so she couldn’t finish hers. Mine was just a tad underbaked.

We stopped in a grocery store to buy some cheese and Italian cured meats and looked for a park to have our lunch. We had a wonderful and satisfying lunch. The crumb on the sourdough loaf was good and it smelled and tasted awesome. The cookie was delicious too but much too sweet for my friend (she doesn’t have a sweet tooth like I do).

As an out-of-town visitor I have to say that Peterborough is very lucky indeed to have a bakery like this. A local person recommended that as the best in town and the pastry I had (see photo) and the cinnamon bun did not disappoint. Looking forward to going again on my next visit!

Love this bakery and the wonderful people that work here and make it so special ? best bread in the city - and very clearly made with love. Their croissants are phenomenal. They get bagels every Thursday from St-Viateur in Montreal which is such a treat.

Always receive the best service here. Friendly staff who know their products and can give the best recommendations. The food itself is incredible and you get good portion sizes for the price you pay. Special shout-out to that gluten free brownie!

After seeing a long lineup outside this store on the weekend we decided to check it out. No wonder people lined up. We visited on Tuesday morning (luckily no lineup) and picked up the sesame loaf, savoury croissant, blueberry/lemon scone and a focaccia. Everything was delicious, especially my scone. The focaccia was a little harder to bite at the bottom but I’m older and so are my teeth. Microwaving it helped remedy the situation. We will visit again.
