Me and my girlfriend go here a lot for food as we both love poutine it was grate start of the year but quality has gone down softer fry’s less proper cheese curds there’s wayyyyy to much shredded cheese it’s ment to be good Canadian poutine it’s moved so far away from that tho and no large anymore may stop going here

Used to be one of my top 3 places to go in town but sadly for some reason they stopped serving almost every poutine after 3pm along with most the food, they also got rid of the LARGE poutine. we wanted pulled pork sandwiches, which they don’t serve after 3 pm but they do serve pulled pork poutine, they have buns for the sandwich but the workers couldn’t help by just making it a sandwich because the manager gives them trouble. These changes were a huge shock and I have no idea why they would even make these changes. This used to be the place to get food late now they close at 10, now the food servings are down and they don’t even serve 80 percent the menu after 3pm. I guess it’s just a breakfast place now

I've been here 2 times in 2 weeks. This used to be the best place in Peterborough to go too well I guess no more. The worse service I've ever experienced , both times no one came over to check on my order to offer me another drink. I told the girl at the end about the food and service and she got mouthy with me told me don't bother coming back. Today I got the classic poutine , gravy was cold , fries over done. I've been going here for years. I'm not sure what's going on but apparently after 3 this. Is all you can order is poutine , but yet they give you a menu ??

Food tasted alright, just not as good as it once was. They only have one size of poutine now, we planned on splitting a large, but they no longer have that option. For a pulled pork poutine, there was tons of pulled pork, which was great, but hardly any fries.Whistle Stop is too inconsistent to desire to go back any time soon (and we live downtown). Maybe we'll give them a chance again next year

Very good poutine and butter tarts. I had the bacon poutine and pecan butter tarts. Poutine was very good but the bacon was more like a crumble. It would be better with quality bacon pieces. The gravy was a little bland. That said, still get good and worth having. They have over 100 choices. The butter tart was top notch. Sort of a short bread like crust gooey center but too runny. Will definitely go back.

Delicious vegan poutine! We got the deluxe and added tomatoes - strongly recommend doing this as the tomatoes really added a lot to the dish. They also have amazing butter tarts!Vegetarian options: Both vegan and vegetarian poutine options are available. The vegan one is delicious!

First time here. We ordered a quesadilla, TexMex, half chicken, half beef, and a Montreal poutine. Shared both, both were amazing!

We had an original poutine and a Philly cheese steak. My wife said the original was good. The Philly Cheesesteak was good but the proportion of mushrooms to everything else was way off. So many more mushrooms then peppers. I also found there was just too much gravy. As for service......make sure you have time. There is no clear direction to seat yourself or go to the counter and order. We just took a seat and it seemed to take forever for service. Yes when someone finally came over we needed a couple extra minutes. This was due to the fact that we were using Clorox wipes on the table because it was dirty. Also when they finally brought out forks they also appeared dirty. Now that might have been water dripping that dried but we also used Clorox wipes on those followed by baby wipes as we had a toddler with us.Honestly the service was SO POOR and slow that I have no idea how they have an over 4 star rating. With that said I would guess it's the college/university students they rely on for that. However the number of those students in the summer time is a lot less so you would think the service in the summer was decent.Sadly won't be back.

Well, for all that this place is a local legend, it sure did disappoint tonight. My Tex Mex poutine was supposed to have green onions, and it did not. It was COVERED with white onions instead. NOT the same thing- raw white onions are WAY more powerful in flavour and really ruined it for me; never mind the fact that there was also supposed to be nacho cheese sauce on it as well, but instead it was positively swimming in sour cream. Eventually I discovered there might have been a little bit of nacho cheese sauce- but it was way down at the bottom- definitely not “topped”, as advertised. Not so many fries as toppings either, which is odd for a poutine. Really quite bizarre. The ham sandwich I ordered was WAY overpriced- almost nine dollars for what would have been maybe a couple slices of ham lunch meat on a wrap with a tiny bit of mayo; at $2.50 to add cheese, making it $11.50 for the SMALLEST wrap I’ve ever seen, I’d classify that “sandwich” as a complete RIP OFF! I don’t think I will be ordering from here again, sadly! It’s not worth the money anymore! I had a pulled pork poutine here a few years ago that was heavenly, but it seems the quality of the food has gone downhill while the prices have skyrocketed. So sad!! I’m a huge fan and supporter of local businesses, but when stuff like this happens, it’s just not worth it…

I really like the whistlestop overall as a place to work late into the night, and good prices, but the staff can be really hit and miss. Really tired stoner guy helping me who missed every other thing I said, charged me extra for an adjusted side when I said I only want that different side if it costs the same. Doing his best but either rough night or untreated adhd, taking an order on the phone for 10 minutes after taking my order, when I asked for a cup of water and normally a server would take 5 seconds to deal with that first. Its sad to see how understaffed and pressured places like this are these days. But thats current capitalism for ya. We're all struggling and trying to do work thats fulfilling and preserves our dignity while the megarich abuse us. My heart goes out to everyone struggling.

Fries are never cooked fully even when you ask for them to be crispy. Which makes the whole thing soggy and inedible. Many times they are out of cheese curds and use mozzarella as a sub. Used to love this place but over the past few years their quality has declined.
