Today, we wrapped up our sixth and final DARs lunch of the year at the Pickering Library, serving over 40 guests. It was a meaningful afternoon filled with warmth, generosity, and community spirit; made even more special by the support of our partners and volunteers.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Affys Premium Grill in Pickering for donating a delicious hot lunch of chicken and rice. As the first halal restaurant in the GTA to offer steaks, grilled chicken, and pastas, Affys has long been a community favourite. Their generous contribution was the perfect comfort meal on a cold, snowy day.

In addition to the hot meal, we provided salad, dessert, and water bottles for all patrons. For the take-home portion, we ordered sandwiches from Supercentre in Ajax. We added fresh fruit and granola bars. Thank you to both businesses for helping us care for our neighbours with dignity and compassion.

We are incredibly grateful to our amazing volunteers: Natalia, Soobia, Rabia, Hira, Fatima, and Kubra for picking up the food, organizing the setup, and serving each guest with care. Your commitment ensures that each lunch runs smoothly and that every person who comes through the door feels welcomed.

As the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught: “He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbor goes hungry.” This timeless teaching reminds us that our obligation to care for our neighbors extends to all; Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

A special appreciation goes to JP, Margaret and the DARs staff, whose ongoing efforts support individuals in need throughout the year. Their dedication brings comfort, nourishment, and hop; especially during the holiday season, helping make Christmas a little brighter for many.

As we close out this year’s DARs lunches, we look forward to continuing this important work in the new year. Thank you to everyone who contributes their time, kindness, and heart to serving our community.

We paid $138 for three meals, including steak with mashed potatoes, soup and soda. I asked for well done steak but all three came medium rare

The food had no flavour

I rate it 0 out of 10 and do not recommend this restaurant

I used to love affys! The last two times were so disappointing- I will literally never comeback again. Please fix your service and whoever is the chef needs to be fired.

I order the chicken parm extra spicy. I told the waiter , to remake it. She just bought it back with hot sauce on top. I asked them to send it back and they charged me for pasta I didn’t even eat!! Affy used to be one of my favourite restaurants, will never be coming back.

Our family goes often, thank you for your service. My children love the kids menu, and completely finish all their dishes. We always get their steak option, and enjoy the taste and experience.

This restaurant is one of the original flagship locations of halaal steaks and fine dining. It holds a special place in our hearts due to the warm vibe set by the owner and cordial exchanges with the staff.

The highlight of the meal was definitely the steak—perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and take pride in their food. The menu also offers a great variety of Halaal options, such as Stuffed Cajun Chicken and delicious Short Ribs, making it easy to find something delicious whether you’re craving something hearty or lighter.

In addition, the warm atmosphere imbues the entire dining experience with a sense of comfort and hospitality.

With that being said, a minor note for improvement may be serving time and more separation decor with other customers.

Come experience Affy's!

By far the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to.
I went there last night with my friends, and everything from start to finish was disappointing. The Caesar salad was warm, served with wilted lettuce and a very small portion. When I ordered my steak, they didn’t even ask how I wanted it cooked, and they brought a completely overcooked, tough steak that tasted only like black pepper.

The mashed potatoes on the side were literally just plain mashed potatoes with nothing added — no flavor at all. My dish came out warm simply because it was served late, but all of my friends’ dishes arrived early and were completely cold, which made the lack of flavor even worse.

Overall, terrible food quality and poorly handled orders. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I visited Affy’s Premium Grill in Pickering after many years. I used to come often when they first opened, but with so many halal options available now, it had been a while. The menu is still more or less the same as it was 15 years ago, with only minor changes. The food was okay, but not quite as good as I remember — it felt like it lacked some flavor. Service was fine, and the atmosphere looks almost unchanged, with little to no upgrades over the years. Overall, I’d give it about 3.5 stars.

I was disappointed to discover a service charge added to my bill that wasn’t clearly disclosed on the menu or at time of ordering. When I asked, I was told the fee was simply for “sitting at a table,” which felt very misleading. Transparency matters, and customers should be clearly informed about all charges upfront. Do better, Affy.

Unfortunately the quality has gone down over time. Ordered on Oct 27th and the Eggplant and Spinach dip was really bad tasting, was chunky instead of usually smooth, and half the size of what I used to get. The other meal items seem to be smaller portions now as well. It used to be 5 stars and very consistent but my last order was really dissappointing
