This place is a W! If I could, I would give this place 10 stars - I’m amazed and can’t rave about their food enough.Firstly, the owners and servers they were absolutely amazing! Warm atmosphere - check! Their jerk chicken sandwich was the biggest win for me tonight! It’s easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve had since I moved here. It was loaded with chicken, had a crunchy patty and fresh coleslaw. And because we’re foodies, my friends and I also ordered their jerk wings, plantain and jerk chicken on rice and devoured all of that…Their portions are huge and their flavours are authentic. All in all, we were beyond happy after our dining experience here. Can’t wait to be back to try something new. Alwyns goes ALL IN!

First, when I walk in, (nice enough, cozy feel) I noticed a bunch of teenagers from the local high school hanging out and the people running the place appear to be, what I would guess as Asians. (possibly pinoy – more on that later)I ordered the jerk chicken. It had no flavour and a mealy texture to the skin. For me, the outer skin of jerk chicken needs to have a nice dark, slightly crispy, bark to it. The meat was boneless, which might be a bonus for some, but this is where I believe the real flavor of meat comes through. Plus, there’s nothing quite like eating jerk chicken and spitting the bones out. Also, jerk chicken needs to have a kick! It doesn’t have to be killer spicy, but you need to feel the presence of that wonderful scotch bonnet heat. Unfortunately, their jerk chicken had no semblance of spice of any kind, let alone hot peppers (which lends to the pinoy background theory). The rice and peas were drier than coconut husk. I had oxtail gravy added to the rice which had the consistency of soya sauce and the flavour of mud water. The food actually wasn’t the worst part. The guy serving couldn’t be more miserable or less hospitable. Maybe his pet hamster died? For such a young guy he had a masterful scowl across his face and barely grunted when he spoke. Either way, he probably shouldn’t be in the service industry. The lady who was filling up the beef patties (probably the mother?) was nice and greeted me with a kind smile and hello while she went about her business (they should probably switch roles). Not sure where all the high praise reviews are coming from, but I would not recommend Allwyn’s for food or service. There’s a much more authentic choice right across the street at Sunrise. Every time I go there are several patrons of Caribbean descent waiting to be served, which says a lot.

I have been here a while. These guys maintain a well oiled machine. Portion sizes you may thing some ways but imo they offer the most protein per unit, most flavour, most consistent. These guys run this joint very well. It’s blessed. The comment below I feel bad about the beef patty I do. I literally just bought 1 and it was amazing, flaky crispy and flavourful. I am almost certain that beef patty was an anomaly as these guys run a top notch carribean spot!Keep it up guys!

Best spot for patties and jerk chicken sandwiches. I used to go to the one in Toronto all the time. Glad to see that they've branched out to Pickering!

If you have not had the PLEASURE of eating here, IMO, you are missing out on the best place in Durham to get some extraordinarily good Caribbean food. I have finally run the gauntlet on the menu pretty much, and nothing but great tasting food so far folks. The "Stuffed Sandwich" has become my fav, (with jerk chicken) and for the prices, you won't be disappointed. Not expensive, not cheap...fair for the food offered and that's what we're al looking for. Give it a try!

I had the goat curry roti and it was delicious. The meat was perfectly tender, the roti was very fresh. The portion size was huge and very generous with meat. Will be coming back to try more things on the menu.

However the atmosphere is welcoming the food is autrociously stale. Like no one wants to throw out dated or day before food.Let's mix old rice and peas with new rice or frozen and warm up rice, no food here to waste. They will persuade you that it's fresh, I am a foodie, a connersuer of food, a blue seal sous chef (US) and you best believe that food is STALE, NOT FRESH. So ?.

The Pickering franchise, sucks. Dry chewy jerk pork and the jerk chicken was not quality chicken like they used to make. So disappointed. I'll buy from the Underhill location and hope that its like it used to be.
