Dragon Gem Chinese Restaurant

1st off, service is A1. Attendants who took order spoke clearly and were courteous. Was looking for a wicked Chinese food restaurant in durham since moving here from Scarborough, and a few colleagues suggested this spot....unfortunately, this place ain't it. Bottomline is that food lacked taste/flavour and had weird after taste. For the price, I am extremely disappointed. But these are good ppl and the spot has been open for 22 years. So maybe it was just me or they had a bad day. One thing that is for sure is that I am completely turned off by takeout in 2025. Its a complete rip off and the food 9x/10 does not reflect price.

We always order from dragon Gem and today when we picked it up and got home I was very disappointed. my chop Suey was suppose to be a veg one and there was more chop suey then veg very disappointing. if you spend over 70 dollars you can get something free so I picked sweet and sour wonton and get it home and it was 1/2 order.
I like this place a lot was very disappointed today

It's a hidden gem, take out restaurant in the Metro Plaza. They are open till 9/9:30pm and the best place to pick up a hot meal on way home from work. Our all time favourites are their chicken corn & hot and sour soup, chicken Lo mein, steamed and fried dumplings, chilly beef and fried rice. Next on the list to try are their lunch specials. 👍

First stop in town for lunch while visiting the area. It wasn't busy so I ordered the lunch special general tso chicken that came with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. Food didn't take long to eat. Now it does taste slightly different from the American version , it isn't as saucy or super tender but other than that it did the job to satisfy my hunger.

I had a craving for chinese Canadian and this was pretty good. Chicken wings are battered nicely and not as oily so great taste. Portions are massssssive, so easily 2 meals out of this one combo. Would come again when leaving Caandian Chinese food.

The worst chicken fried rice I ever had in my life.

I ordered chicken fried rice and it was mediocre. It seemed like it was missing an important flavour. Didn’t seemed like ‘fried’ rice at all. They actually charged $15 for the portion and then put the clear lid inside the tinfoil container, missing about half the container. I also ordered the noodles and they were okay. I don’t recommend this place and I won’t be a repeat customer.

Paid 12.Xx for this lunch special, Hunan Style Beef! And oh my godddd, food was so fresh and hot, honestly exceptional with the amount of vegetables and beef they give for a lunch special. This photo was taken after I ate more than half of it and still look at how much vegetables and meat there is! And the cashier lady was so nice too! Truly a hidden gem, try it out everyone!
