The first time ate at this place a couple of months ago, I was so impressed with the food. The fish was good size and fresh, the server was very pleasant and the salad and coleslaw were freshly made. Today, I was craving for fish and chips, and I was bragging about this place to my family so we've decided to order take away since this place is only 5 minutes away. I ordered 4 halibut fish, fries and coleslaw. When I got home, the flavour of the fish is not bad but they were soggy and so were the fries. What blew me away was the side order of fried calamari (see picture). This is a 14.00 calamari! It looks like leftover from previous dine-in customer. PATHETIC! Never again!!

The food is always delicious, served promptly and hot. More impressive was our server Sophia! That gal ran the place SOLO, serving a packed house, yet disappointing none of her patrons.
She is a KEEPER! Her job can be a tricky one but she was so capable and efficient that we felt more than necessary to give her top marks!

You will know why my review is so low by the photos. This is my order. It was pretty shocking how my food and container was dripping with oil. I sent it to the head office but no response. I should have know as the cashier was sitting at a table on her phone and left me standing there for just over 5mins. Overall, customer service and food was beyond poor.

service was very good. single server. friendly and quick. good was fresh. we had the breakfast. it was very good. the home fries however were just good. maybe the oil needed to be changed ? otherwise everything else was delicious.
fully intend to return. very fair pricing. i recommend.

Looking for some delicious fish n chips? Halibut House Fish n Chips has been a mainstay in the Pickering community. Their food is consistently good and fresh ingredients.
Our hungry stomachs brought us here for the Wednesday Cod fish n chips special for $14.95. You get a jumbo breaded cod fish, fresh cut fries, and coleslaw. I like how the fish was not overly greasy and they used fresh oil in their deep fryer.

This food really hit the spot and satisfied our cravings. The restaurant is bright and open concept. The server was nice and she refilled our ice waters.

I recommend coming here if you are looking for fish n chips fix.

I ordered the codfish and chips. Not what I had expected though. The chips were extremely greasy, over crispy on the ends, and not the best tasting. The codfish was saturated in grease and kind of chewy. I was very disappointed with the food and not able to eat it. The Manager (Aaron) was empathetic of my concerns and rectified the problem immediately to my satisfaction. He was pleasant and easy to talk to. That being said, I may consider giving this place another chance but will definitely not order any fish and chips.

Dont be cheap when asking for more condiments, I asked for more tartar sauce she gave me 1 more in total of 4 packets. Dint not ask for any other condiments. Better fish and chips in the area but closed on Sundays

I used to be unimpressed due to the hours of service but after complying within their business hours I must say I was completely wrong!

The customer service is completely outstanding! Sandra has been nothing but kind and courteous and has a complete heart of gold. In addition, Sophie has an energetic attitude that makes the customer feel at home.

Thank you guys so much for changing my mind.

I’ve visited many Halibut Houses This one in Pickering is by far the best in the Cain that I have been to Excellent Quality larger portions And the Service by Sandra was well second to none Truly a gem in the Halibut House chain

Honestly, food wasn't bad. The fish was great. I think easing off watering things down like vinegar, tartar sauce, and even the ceasar salad dressing was watered down. Kinda ruined it for me....

So on my family's first visit to Halibut House, we were left extremely disappointed. We went on National Fish and Chips day, and it took 20 minutes for the waitress to come and greet us and get our drink orders. We went around 12, and it was not busy considering the day.
After thay, she took our orders (we all ordered the halibut). What really bothered me was that people who came in after us, got their lunch first. We were left waiting. Another waitress that served our neighbours, checked in on us and asked us if we had ordered. I replied that we ordered before them, so she kindly said she would follow up. Whereas our waitress, did not check in on us at all. She completely forgot about us.
Within a few minutes, the other waitress that served our neighbours, said it would be out shortly. Within 10 minutes, the same waitress came out with our food, and apologized 3 times for the mistake. It was not her fault, yet she apologized on her coworkers behalf.
The fish was flakey, but flavourless. I could have made a better dish at home. The best part was the fries.
Honestly, as a family of 4, we buy the best food and ingredients and make amazing meals at home. We go out to eat once in a while, but I feel even that is generous. In the end, restaurants end up making you feel sorry you even went. The food is overpriced, the restaurants are over-hyped, and the service is just lacking.
