been here twice and the service is slow, last time I even had to get up and look for help cause no one had come to my table for 30+ minutes which was at the far end of the restaurant. Food was good though, but the service was bad enough to not want to go back. Maybe I just had a particulary bad experice.

Update: they invited us back to make up for the experience and I would like to say it was very pleasant, the servers had been very attentive. They also took all the precautions necessary to assure no cross contamination or allergens ended up in my boyfriend’s food. I appreciate State and Main Pickering for trying to rectify the situation and we have both decided that this is a restaurant we want to continue to come to! Thank you again.

Booked a reservation for Valentine’s Day and was unfortunately very disappointed. Messed up my boyfriend’s meal 3 times (allergens) which made me finish my meal before his even came.. They sat us in a dark corner where no body else was and the servers only came and check on us once or twice. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 drinks which never came.
Given it was Valentine’s Day and an “expensive” meal out I would’ve liked to have not felt brushed off.
With that being said the food was good once they got right

This place/service was abysmal. Our waiter was ok but whoever came over with our food ended up dropping almost our entire order (party of 4) on the floor right at our table. Honest mistake. But how it was handled was extremely poor. They offered us the side plate of fries that actually made it to the table without being dropped on the floor for “free” while they went ahead and remade our order. To their credit they remade the food quickly but their lack of customer service or attempt at at least comping something (drinks or one of the entrees etc) was disappointing. Food that was remade was unappetizing and lacked flavour and I think that this point we were just super annoyed. Just a poor experience overall and very doubtful we’ll be back.

We went for dinner after my grandsons hockey around 530. We got a table for 5 of us. menus were put on the table never seen a waitress for 15 minutes so we decided to leave. My son and his family are from Kingston they had a 3 hour drive home roughly. A waiter came over to say no body told him we were there. Yet to young girls working on the bar looked over at us a couple of times. So that is first and last time we will.ever go to a State and Main restaurant. They ended up going to Wendy's on the highway and I ended up heading home which is an hour drive north. Stopped at Mary Browns where I got quick service and a smile.

My husband and I showed up at 5 on a Friday night, the place was not busy at all. We were asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't since it was only 2 of us and it was early, we thought why would we need a reservation. Needless to say, they wouldn't seat us, which made absolutely no sense, I assured the girl, we wouldn't be lingering long, we order, eat and we're out of there. Nope, still wouldn't seat us. Obviously our business doesn't matter to them. Therefore we will NEVER be back!!

UPDATE: The manager contacted me immediately and had me follow a couple steps to get on the phone with him even though I was reluctant to do so. He wanted to express his concern and disappointment to me directly and also offered to comp my entire dinner. He requested I come back and allow them to give us the true S&M experience. I have already received gift cards and he is waiting for my call to reserve a table when I’m able to. I have to say the way it was resolved exceeded my expectations and has replaced my disappointment with a lasting impression that is the complete opposite of how I felt leaving the establish. It will not only have me coming back but also have me telling my friends and family about it.

Came in on Friday, January 24th around 7:30pm and felt awful about leaving a really low tip. It was wasn’t busy and we were seated right away. It continued to be less busy as the night went on. Food was all delicious and came out quickly. However the waitress Daniella, although pleasant and helpful with dietary restrictions, was actually terrible at tending to our table. Our dirty appetizer plates and serving platters were still on the table while we were well into eating our entrees. Another lady ended up taking the serving platter as she passed by but our server only moved the rest when we had to politely ask her to. Our waters were never refilled and neither was our water jug. Again we had to ask her to do that after she ignored it several times. It’s just frustrating to see this lack of attention to patrons at a nicer restaurant where you’re paying more for your food and so your tip is subsequently going to be higher. It’s not a Boston pizza where I’m willing to cut the waiter some slack but even there, they at least move your dirty plates off the table before bringing your meal. When it was time to pay, the suggested amounts on the point of sale machine were laughable. 18%? 20%? Regrettably, she barely got 5%, although we considered giving her nothing, we did want to acknowledge the bare minimum service she gave us. State and Main at this location needs to train their servers better. Common sense for the younger generation isn’t as common as it used to be and tips are a recognition of great service which this time, wasn’t.

Chicken fingers here I had a feeling would be good for some reason and they were better than Jack Astor's which I believe says a lot. Fries pretty great too.

I really like this local pub and have been several times. Tonight I was craving the soup dumplings and stopped in for dinner. Luckily for me it was also half priced wing night.

We were greeted and seated quickly and our server Cass was excellent and very attentive in explaining the special and taking our drink order. She came by several times to check up and I appreciate the care.

Those soup dumplings arrived and they're still just as much as a knock out as they usually are. Full of flavour, with a kick of spice, I really enjoyed them.

The half priced wings were also worth it with a side of fries. I chose the classic buffalo which were spicy in all the right ways. The wings are smaller compared to other Wing places but they compensate by giving more. The fries were truly delicious, crispy and well seasoned. I really enjoyed the fries and typically get them with every meal.

My only issue is that the bathrooms require some upkeep and maintenance as there are several pieces that require repair. I don't think the toilet paper holder should be held together by painter's tape.

Overall I've been here many times and will come back many times.

We visited State & Main for New Year’s dinner, and it was a complete disappointment. From the start, things went downhill. It took the front desk staff several minutes to figure out our reservation, and when we were finally seated, we were told there was a 90-minute dining limit. No other restaurant we’ve been to has ever imposed that, especially for a special occasion like New Year’s Eve.

The atmosphere was uninspired. We were crammed into a tiny booth with no charm or ambiance. It took about five minutes for anyone to greet us or bring water, and when the server finally arrived, she seemed uninterested and disengaged, as if we were at a budget diner.

We ordered the Paper Plane cocktail, which was a disaster. It tasted like watered-down orange juice with too much ice—not even close to a proper cocktail. For the price, we expected far better.

The food was even worse. A steak ordered medium-well came out dry and overcooked, while another steak was drowned in an overpowering, spicy sauce that completely ruined the dish. The sushi bites were bland and uninspired—just flavorless tuna, spicy mayo, and fried rice squares that lacked creativity.

We skipped dessert or more drinks because the quality of the food and service was so underwhelming. The whole experience felt like dining at Harvey’s trying to pretend it was The Keg, but failing miserably. Our money could have been so much better spent elsewhere, and this subpar experience completely ruined what was supposed to be a special night.

We won’t be coming back, and we can’t recommend State & Main to anyone looking for a decent dining experience.

Ordered Beef Dip and it was inundated with grizzle. Could not chew or swallow and had to spit out. Do not understand why a chef in a restaurant so highly regarded would have such a disregard for quality and serve food that was edible. Server told me I should have sent it back. Do not do that. Who knows what the chef might do to your food. Side Caesar was good. Portions are small. Manager should have come to the table and rectified the situation. Last time I eat at State and Main.
