Super friendly and made perfect subs and rice bowls for the whole family!

Local Subway in Port Carling. Went there today. Not sure if the fellow behind the counter was the owner or not, but either way, kind of a jerk. Wasn’t expecting a bonus order of passive aggression with my turkey sub!😂 I’ve eaten a few subs in my time, and this was … certainly one of them🥱The ingredients were ok, though watching him squeeze avocado toothpaste from a prepackaged mostly empty plastic bag was less than sexy. The advertised sandwich indicated cheddar cheese and yet his first question, asked as if the answer was already a given was, “do you want white cheese?”. I had to step back a moment and avert my eyes to the menu above. Yup, cheddar as thought. “No, I’ll have the sandwich as described”. This set off a series of unintended consequences! When the sandwich came out of the toaster (cheddar unmelted and the bread still cold) I was not asked what veggies I wanted! Apparently, I had been relieved of that burden! When I stopped his aggressive assemblage, to point out what I wanted) (and didn’t want) he puffed out his chest and pointed to the menu, reminding me of my choice to have it as advertised. For the uninitiated among you, the menu does not stipulate which veggies. That is always your choice. Except here, apparently, without having to insist! His hostility was kind of funny actually. I’m guessing, given his attitude and the sad look of the displayed items (roast beef that looked like the fatty tailing thrown away a week ago, “piri-piri” chicken that had the all the visual appeal of sawdust clumps, and ofcourse the avocado sluice), that business has been slow. Well, perhaps he’ll use his time to enjoy the landscape and fun upbeat businesses nearby. I certainly will!😉

Standard Subway fare, as tasty as you would like it to be! Portions seem to have shrunk over the years, but then perhaps my appetite for value has grown!

Used the App to order, arrived on time, & order was showing as ready for pickup. Had to wait almost 5 minutes while cashier dickered with a kid at the counter, & the other employee ignored me completely. Tuna sub with lettuce cheese onion tomato & mayo was *somehow* so spicy neither I nor partner could eat it. Nothing inside that appeared to be spicy, so no idea wth caused it. Waste of money, & no lunch for us.

I had a troubling experience with the owner/manager and staff at this location, that suggests they care very little for the community in which they are operating. I drove by en route to our local grocery, (Foodland) on a day when a storm was brewing, and noticed piles of loose garbage, (from a bag that had clearly opened) at the side of their facility. Not having any garbage bags or other supplies on me, being on my way to pick up groceries, (and thinking it was their responsibility, and something they would want to address before the wind blew up), I called to alert them to the situation and politely ask if someone could attend to it. On my way home, noticing the garbage was still there and the storm was brewing, I stopped and asked if they could attend to it. Though there wasn’t another soul in the store, the owner haughtily informed me that “it wasn’t their garbage and he was “too busy” to bother with it.” So, I drove home, picked up a broom, dustpan, garbage bags and gloves, and came back to clean it up myself — (it took me all of 5 minutes to do it).Whether the garbage was theirs or not is almost irrelevant. If a local business cares so little for their own property and the community in which they operate that they can’t take 5 minutes out of their day to clean up some garbage littering their site, I think they likely don’t really deserve our community’s business. My advice, if you are thinking about patronizing the Port Carling Subway? Don’t!!
