I ordered beef short ribs (back ribs), chicken and pork chops for lunch today. They came with soup, tea or coffee and a piece of cake. The food was good in general. I like the cake, especially the Chocolate and Strawberry which is very moist and light. The price is reasonable and can be low as $20 for the lunch combo. The minimum charge per person is $6.99 before tax. 13% gratitude was automatically added to the bill.

I want to comment on their unreasonable payment scheme. I used a gift card of $10.00 for a pre ordered cake . I was not allowed to charge on my credit card as I have used the gift card and I was requested to pay in cash. I was told the option of not using the gift card then I could get 10% off if I paid cash . If not then I needed to pay the full amount and I could not use my credit card neither as I need to use my 10.00 gift card . Personally I was very disappointed with this payment option . Definitely I will not go back again and I'm very disappointed .
when we called for reservation at 1130 am, I was told .no reservation can be made and told us to come as a walk in on a first come first serve base.
However when we [a group of 5] arrived at 445 p.m, were told fully booking already two weeks ago.
So frustrating, what kind of system and never back. Waste our time and long travel.

Had family dinner 2 days ago. Maxim used to be very good, esp. its cakes and borsch. But not now. First, the tea was bland, did not taste like tea or coffee, not even a mixture; it was just tasteless! Then the borsch: it’s like oxo cube dissolved in warm water with a little chili and lemon juice. No beet, no onion, not much of anything; totally unlike what it used to be in the past! Then the salad. For mine it was ok; but not for my wife’s: it was totally bland, tasteless. Then she discovered we had balsamic vinegar but she didn’t! She was grossly upset and complained! I ordered a surf and turf for my main course, a $49 dish. The seafood pasta came first; and again it was totally bland, good for salt free diet. It was supposed to contain lobster, scallop, shrimps, etc. What I found was small shrimps, small pieces of octopus, with white sauce. The meat came 15-20 min. later. The bacon that wrapped the meat was uncooked and I could see all the fat there. I decided not to eat it but take it home. My son ordered a prime rib, rare, for his main course. It took a very long time to come, and when it did arrive, he found it completely raw, with surfaces boiled in the sauce not grilled. They offered to cook it more, but because it took them half an hour to bring that out and both my wife and daughter in law felt if it was recooked, the meat wouldn’t be the same and would not taste good. So my son declined the offer and preferred to go without the main course! My wife had a mixed grill. It had pork chop, sausage, a spare rib, and something else. But she felt it was lacking in taste. My grandson ordered striploin steak. He said it was very tough. Then we ordered our dream cake. I had a piece of mango shortcake. The mango was fine, but the rest of the cake again was tasteless; it was unlike what we used to have in the past!
On the whole the quality of food was totally different from the past and had much to be desired. The service was slow; there were probably not enough servers. The dinner was not cheap: it was over $300 for just 5 dinners, no alcohol drinks or soft drinks, just tea and water, which they charged $2 extra (not bottled water).
After dinner, we found outside from their window an ad: hiring chef, waiters and waitress, etc.
That explains what we experienced at the dinner!

This place just gets better, check out the pork chop thickness and of course they have the best cakes in town, absolutely not so sweet just the perfect balance. Service is slow when there are more customers but quality has surpassed this flaw.
Just came here to buy a chestnut cake this time. We used to come here for dining and cake. Their cake used to be pretty good. But this time the eight inches chestnut cake looked small, but we bought it anyway. We later found out that there was only a small blob of chestnut paste in the middle and the cake is only about 7 inches iso eight inches. Disappointed!
Great food for it’s price, particularly during promotion period. Their duck breast is cooked perfectly and seasoned well, as well as their steak.
Happy 50th Anniversary! Congratulations! We enjoyed their special menu tonight. Good food and great service!
Food is good. Duck breast is tender. We ordered medium rare and it’s perfectly done.
