Uncle Tetsu's Japanese Cheesecake, Hillcrest Mall

I love the freshness of the cheesecakes. I went on Saturday, August 16th, and bought an Angel's Hat. I felt lucky because I hadn’t been able to find one in a while, although they didn’t have the cheesecake flavor of the month. Unfortunately, they don’t always have the full variety of products available.
They usually offer special flavors during the week, but weekends are when I have the time to go. Also, they’ve removed the most visible menu from the store, so now we have to wait for it to appear on the TV screen again.
The store is always clean, and the woman who works on Fridays and weekends is very kind and understanding with my children. I’m very grateful to them for always welcoming us with a smile.

This is hands down my favorite Japanese cheesecake shop — no question about it. The taste is always spot on: light, fluffy, perfectly balanced. No matter how many times I buy it, it’s just as good every single time. That soft, airy texture? Never disappoints.

The price is super reasonable, which makes it even better. Whether I’m bringing it to share with coworkers, gifting it to someone, or just enjoying it myself — it’s always a hit. Honestly, it’s one of those things I just can’t walk past without picking up.

For this quality and flavor at this price point, it’s completely unbeatable.

The cashier was rather over it. Talked super fast and rushed my grandmother. She can't read, and the cashier just pointed at signs, and when my grandma asked something, they just repeated the menu opinions over and over.

Uncle Tetsu is located in Hillcrest Mall near the Food Court. They used to be located elsewhere in that same mall. The closest mall entrance to them is the TD Bank / Sports Chek doors.

They sell the standard hot selling items, but if you are looking for a specific flavoured product, please check their weekly menu ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

They take cash, debit and credit cards. It’s a walk up window without any washroom facilities. Use the mall instead. No issues with parking either.

Chocolate Cheesecake and Chocolate Cheese Tart are available Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Matcha Cheesecake and Matcha Cheese Tart are available Mondays and Wednesdays.

Original Cheesecake and Original Cheese Tart are available daily and so is Ube Purple Cheesecake.

Today, I went to buy a cheesecake, and this girl deliberately made things difficult for me. I had explained everything clearly, and we were in a hurry. Yet, she asked every question very slowly, intentionally repeating everything. “Do you want the cheesecake? Do you want it hot or cold? Do you want any other products?” I rejected her, saying I didn’t want anything else, but she kept asking questions, clearly trying to make things harder for me. So, I told her again that I had already made it clear that I really didn’t want anything else.

She responded by saying, "This is our policy." I started thinking, “Are you sure the owner would agree with this? If they see this review, I hope they give her some basic training. If her service attitude is worse than that of a robot—so rigid and intentionally making customers dissatisfied and unhappy—then they should either dismiss her or give her more training.”

Today is September 27th, during the 4 PM shift. You should check who was working. This girl needs proper training. I don’t know if her salary is too low, but she clearly doesn’t enjoy her job. In fact, it seemed like she was purposely trying to ruin the business for the owner. So, when you see this review, please also pay attention to the staff in the store. Check the surveillance footage and see if other customers are as dissatisfied as I was.

Uncle Tetsu offers incredibly light and fluffy Japanese-style cheesecakes that strike the perfect balance between subtle sweetness and delicate texture. The cakes are baked fresh and served warm, making them a must-try for dessert enthusiasts.

While it can get busy, especially during peak hours, the friendly staff ensures the line moves quickly. The classic cheesecake is the star, but their madeleines are also worth a try. Prices are reasonable, making it a great spot for a delicious treat or a take-home dessert. Definitely worth a visit wherever you find one!

the original cheesecake taste much better here in this location compared to the one from downtown location. I always buy from DT so i knew the taste difference . But First time to visit in this mall and i was surprised uncle tetsu is available. :) so happy. No line up and much better taste. Maybe they prepared and baked slowly not rushing up compared to downtown busy everything is fast. It affects the quality and taste. id rather travel to hillcrst mall just to buy Uncle tetsu.

Used to be the best cheesecake store in the area. Completely different experience now. The cake is not the same quality it used to be. Madeline cookies are good thought. Not worth the drive.

Why you don’t have any branch in upper canada mall ?

Went there late in the afternoon, i asked for their signature cheese tarts, and the lady there told me they only have matcha. I also asked for their signature Japanese cheesecake, and she said they only have very berry. We got very berry, but it seemed a little too moist. Idk if it was bc we got very berry, or their texture is actually different from Uncle Tetsu's other branches!!??‍♀️

4/13/24 Bought Earl Grey Cheesecake, opened it up at the food court to eat. It's wet, soggy and looks extremely under baked. Took it back to the counter within fifteen minutes of purchase and was told there's nothing they could do about it. C'mon this is food safety.
