Family Lunch on Saturday, July 05, 2025 — A Major Disappointment

We had booked a private room for a family lunch. The interior and decor were very elegant, evoking the atmosphere of a high-end, nearly gastronomic restaurant. However, our first encounter with the hostess, Tracy, completely shattered that impression.

She is clearly not suited for the role: unsmiling, unavailable, and far from customer-focused. Moreover, she proved to be incompetent in her duties, unable to guide or inform us about the menu. She had to call on her colleague, Xuan, for assistance.

As for the lunch itself, the dishes arrived within a reasonable timeframe, but sadly lacked any flavor. Nothing extraordinary, especially considering the establishment’s grandeur and prestige.

In conclusion: a family lunch that felt bland and disappointing. The service, as well as the food, fell far below expectations. I certainly won’t be returning.

I visited this restaurant with the intention of potentially hosting my wedding reception here, but after the experience I had, that is completely off the table.
The service was shockingly poor. No one greeted us properly, and we were left alone with menus and zero explanation. The waitress didn’t speak a word of English and had her AirPods in the entire time, clearly not paying attention to us or any of the other tables. There was no follow-up, no tea refills, and no effort to provide even basic hospitality.

As for the food—it was just average. For the price they’re charging, I expected much more. It felt like we were paying for the interior design rather than the meal or the service. The space itself looks nice, but what’s the point if everything else falls short?
Needless to say, I’ll be looking elsewhere for a wedding venue. This was a complete letdown.

I came here with a friend after hearing mixed reviews, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. For a restaurant that presents itself as high-end with premium pricing, the quality just isn’t there. The food was mediocre at best—definitely not worth the cost—and the service was practically nonexistent.

We were seated in a room with menus dropped off, and no one came to explain anything or check in on us. The waitress didn’t seem interested in helping and didn’t speak English, which made basic communication difficult. No one asked if we wanted more tea or how our meal was going.

The interior is quite nice, so it’s clear the owners spent money on the decor, but it’s a shame they didn’t invest in proper training for their staff or better food quality. Overall, it was a frustrating and underwhelming dining experience. We won’t be returning.

Looks Nice, But That’s About It.

Zunyan Restaurant is all style and no substance. For the high prices, the food was mediocre and the service was practically non-existent. We were left in the room with menus and no explanation. The waitress was disengaged and barely communicative—never checked in or offered more tea.
Beautiful space, but poor food and zero customer service. Not worth it.

Overpriced and Underwhelming

Zunyan Restaurant may look impressive from the outside, but the experience left much to be desired. For a higher-end restaurant with steep prices, the food was disappointing and the service was virtually non-existent.

We were left sitting in the private room with menus and no explanation or guidance. The waitress showed little interest in assisting us and did not appear to speak English, which made even basic communication difficult. No one came to check in during the meal—not to ask how the food was, offer more tea, or provide any kind of hospitality you would expect at this price point.

While the interior design is undeniably well done, it’s clear the investment went into appearances rather than staff training or customer service. Overall, it was a frustrating and underwhelming dining experience. We won’t be returning.

Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype or the Price.

We recently visited Zunyan Restaurant in Richmond Hill with high hopes, especially given its upscale appearance and premium pricing. Unfortunately, the experience was a major letdown on nearly every front.

Despite the elegant décor and clearly significant investment in interior design, the service was virtually non-existent. I was seated and handed a menu without any explanation. The waitress didn’t seem interested in assisting us and appeared to speak little or no English, making communication difficult. At no point did anyone check in on us—not to see if we were ready to order, if we needed more tea, or even to ask how the food was.

Speaking of the food, for a restaurant positioned at a higher price point, the quality was subpar and did not justify the cost. Overall, there was a complete lack of customer service, paired with underwhelming dishes.

My sister was considering this venue for her wedding, which was the reason for our visit. Needless to say, we will not be returning—and certainly won’t be booking any special events here. Zunyan might look the part, but it’s missing the most important ingredients: quality food and attentive service.

China's wine table culture should be rectified. Does the bottle banquet promote and amplify this cultural bad habit? It is right for the waiter to charge tips from the guests. The waiter is brainless and uneducated, but he still strongly agrees with this bad habit and game. Pushing cups and changing cups is just a kind of game, which is enough. If the cups are full, the guests need to remind you too much. Pour less. The way they deal with drunken guests is also very rubbish, and their sense of service is very distorted. If it is a business bureau under Chinese culture, it is best for women not to serve at the banquet and help the young girls drink wine.

The food was served very slowly, it was served an hour after ordering, and the taste was very poor. The set menu said it was teal soup, but what was served was bamboo shredded chicken soup. It was said to be sold out, but when ordering, the manager still said it was teal soup. We all had to pay for the last dish before it was served. I won’t go there again, let alone recommend it to my friends.
