Ride was smooth. Guests were friendly. Colors were beautiful. Walks to falls very doable. Enjoyed the whole day. Picked up tickets day before at train station and visited gift shop. . Had dinner at Mill steakhouse night before our trip. Terrific mini-vacation.
Did the Agawa Canyon Train this past Thursday. It was great overall but the trip for 90 mins of a quick walk was not what I completely expected. Understanding it’s a tour train but the trip up or back could be quicker allowing more time in the canyon. I completed the beaver and bridal veil falls but the opportunity to get in the lookout was way beyond the chance to get to in the expected time. If you could speed up the trip to or from and allow more time in the canyon that would be great. The views and colours were amazing with the oranges, yellows and reds with the evergreen greens mixed in was spectacular. Would I recommend this train tour, yes indeed but if you are going to get in everything in the canyon, you best get moving when you get off the train as it leaves on time.
I have had a desire to take the Agawa Canyon excursion into the accessible backcountry of northern Ontario for decades and finally did it this past week with my wife and another couple. We enjoyed it overall but it is an admittedly long ride and the scenery is a tad repetitive given that the forest has grown so close to the track in most places. We had overcast weather with threatening rain so we did not do either of the two moderate hikes as the thought of sitting in wet/ damp clothes for a 4.5 hour return trip was not appealing. The glimpses of scenery and fall colours were as striking as expected. Later in the week, we took a 2.5 hour boast cruise out of Gravenhurst on the Wenonah II…scenery was great, running commentary by local hist was exceptional and the food was excellent. We were glad to be able to have both experiences.
😊The Scenery was fantastic. However, the train staff could have been more friendly. I packed up my sandwiches and two beers in my backpack. After 4 hrs, I went to the dining car where there were tables and chairs for dining, and started having my sandwiches and beer. When I finished my beer, I went to throw the can in the garbage bin, and one of the staff rudely asked me if I had any more of this beer! I said I had one, but I finished it earlier. He mentioned it is not allowed to have your beer here, and we announced it. I said I did not hear any announcement, and even when I purchased the tickets online, I do not remember them announcing this rule. He was rude; He treated me the way that he grabbed a drug or illegal item from me. He had a medium build body with a goatee, and during the trip, his Laptop was open checking his Gmail! Vulgar person. He could have handled the situation more professionally. He said I can make a call, and you will end up with a $5000 fine! He said I would decide upon our arrival, which put us in a very uncomfortable position. I had no idea that the outside beer was prohibited; if I had known that, would I have opened the beer in the dining car in front of everyone? He just put a dark memory on our trip. It was my 3rd time in the the last five years, but I will never go back unless they officially apologize for their barbaric behavior.
Had never been on a train before...so that was an experience for myself. The ride was long their video cameras need to be looked after very bad reception. Water falls was nothing to look at. Other than that meet great people. Staff was excellent. Thanks for the experience.
we were very disappointed the train car we had was a old one the bathrooms were closed on our car so we had to go to the other car it was really hard walking in the moving car and the in between the 2 cars to go to bathroom on other cars there was a line to go because between the 2 cars was 100 people my mom who is 87 had a super hard time getting to the other car to use restroom also our windows were really scratched you couldn’t get good pictures and enjoy the scenery all the windows were bad car number 16 and once we got there only had 1 hour 40 minutes to eat your lunch and do the trail to the 300 step gorge and 2 falls should be at least 2 hours especially for the older people it wasn’t enough time won’t do it again especially for the $150 we spent for the ticket apiece
Very cool spot for lunch and a cold brew! We had the pizza and it was quite good and this is coming from a guy from New Jersey - the capital for pizza!
We can’t say enough good things about the team at The Machine Shop! Josie, John and Chef Joel are such a pleasure to work with and overly accommodating. Our guests raved about the food all night! Thank you for everything you did for our wedding.
