Francesca Italian Bakery & Delicatessen

Francesca Bakery used to be one of Scarborough’s hidden gems. For years, it stood out for its authentic, high-quality Italian food, especially the arancini. But over the past five years, things have changed for the worse. The menu expanded, and more staff were brought on, but instead of improving service and quality, everything feels rushed and inconsistent now.

My biggest letdown is the arancini. As a Sicilian, these rice balls were something I looked forward to as they were once perfectly seasoned, had rich, flavourful meat, and a crispy, light coating. Now the rice is bland, the filling is dry and barely there, and the outer batter is thick and sloppily done. It feels like the original recipe was either changed or ignored, and what used to be a highlight is now a disappointment.

For the price, they simply aren’t worth it anymore. I really hope the owners reconsider and return to the original recipe and standards that made Francesca Bakery special.

Overall food is great, disappointed with tiramisu cake hubby picked up for birthday, we haven’t had this in quite a while. They use to make an authentic Italian tiramisu cakes. Would not get a cake there again but we love the food.

Came here for pastries on Saturday morning. It was busy but tables were still available.
Lots of selection for sweet toothers. We got a Pavlova and pistachio tart.
The pistachio tart for very green for how little it tasted like pistachios.
The Pavlova was veryyyy sweet. It had some lemon curd but not enough to cut the sweetness.
Staff was not exceptionally friendly but were not rude.
Give it a go but would not go out of my way to be here.

Best cannoli outside of 🇮🇹

Got their traditional Setteveli cake for a birthday event. Also got some macaroons & cannoli😋 Everything was so fresh and delicious! Almost all the guests asked about the cake and the shop💕 Will definitely come back for the cake, pastries, pasta, huge collection of breads & sandwiches.

One of the best cake in GTA

The cannoli shell is burnt and sprinkled with some sort of powdered icing sugar. Tasteless, gross. The aranchini is white rice squashed together and a small amount of ragu sauce with peas.

Delicious hot foods. Lots of different breads and pastries. Nice selection of cakes. Staff are friendly. Only a few tables for eat-in. Limited parking spaces in the plaza.

I recently visited Francesca Bakery hoping to buy some fresh breads, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The lady behind the counter displayed an unpleasant attitude right from the start. Instead of welcoming us, she seemed annoyed by our presence, which was surprising given that we were simply there to make a purchase.

I had heard good things about the bakery’s offerings, but after this encounter, I’m not sure I’ll be returning anytime soon. It’s a shame that such poor service overshadows the quality of their products. For a place that prides itself on fresh baked goods, investing in better customer service would go a long way.

Croissant was AMAZING.
Cappuccino was not strong enough for me.
The veal sandwich, lasagna, sandwich, and all food items can't be beat.
