Go past the gas fumes from the Shell station by Mccowan and you'll get a whiff of authentic jerk in Island Spice. Excellent jerk platters, the coleslaw is the bomb, just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess to balance out the spice. The red stew has boneless chicken in a tomato based red sauce. The bbq chicken is fall of the bone good - you know it's tender when you can use a plastic fork and spoon and cut up the chicken no problem. Awesone plantains. Calloo is tasty. Definitely the highlight of the small pitfield plaza which features some of the best carribean flavors in the GTA!

Food is pretty good but expensive ($8 for a jerk chicken leg) when they have it available. I’m still here 15 min later - The service is like molasses. They put up this barrier 4 feet from the food so you can’t see it anymore.

I have updated my review because I find it quite sad that they won’t even provide a little bit of extra sauce - not oxtail but the barbecue sauce - on the side if you want it! I had to wait on the phone for 5 minutes for them to “decide” and after spending hundreds of dollars at this location and these franchises - it’s not the portion that isn’t good but they are stingy with what you can have. They don’t appreciate you as a customer. Tyrone the owner, I’ve never met him, but Sue who works at the front never gives sauce, unless it’s oxtail you can’t have barbecue sauce. I feel unappreciated as a customer. I was going to order today and decided to keep my money. What’s the point! Is their barbecue jerk fry good yes but are they generous with the sauce - NOT AT ALL! I’m pretty upset about it!

Excellent experience. Wonderful jerk chicken. Rice and beans done perfectly. Staff is amazing. I had both the jerk chicken and bbq jerk chicken. Coleslaw is nice and fresh. The cassava pone makes a nice dessert if you have room left.
