Go past the gas fumes from the Shell station by Mccowan and you'll get a whiff of authentic jerk in Island Spice. Excellent jerk platters, the coleslaw is the bomb, just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess to balance out the spice. The red stew has boneless chicken in a tomato based red sauce. The bbq chicken is fall of the bone good - you know it's tender when you can use a plastic fork and spoon and cut up the chicken no problem. Awesone plantains. Calloo...
Food is pretty good but expensive ($8 for a jerk chicken leg) when they have it available. I’m still here 15 min later - The service is like molasses. They put up this barrier 4 feet from the food so you can’t see it anymore.
Excellent experience. Wonderful jerk chicken. Rice and beans done perfectly. Staff is amazing. I had both the jerk chicken and bbq jerk chicken. Coleslaw is nice and fresh. The cassava pone makes a nice dessert if you have room left.
