I went to the Blue Mermaid for the first time. Being a resident of Niagara, I always heard great things about it. I would have to say that my experience was to the contrary. The steak my husband ordered was thin, overcooked, and not the prime rib the waiter try to convince him it was. The cost of the steak was $75.00. I had the chicken. The gravy was no better than a canned, thick, and salty chicken gravy. This dish was close to $40. The service was disappointing as well. We had a waiter who was rude, pushy, and interrupted our party on several occasions. We felt pressured to hurry our dinner, and felt as if we didn’t belong there. I would have to say, I would rather a winery experience, as the food is better-priced, of higher quality, and much better service. I will never recommend the Blue Mermaid to anyone wishing to have an exceptional experience.

Carol Legedza Goldman and Lorrie ImaYid Goldman had an amazing anniversary dinner at the The Blue Mermaid Seafood & Steakhouse last night. The food and service were outstanding. The staff were so friendly and attentive and a big shoutout to Vicky and Nick and the rest of the staff. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend to all in the Niagara region. Thank you!

Well, I don’t think it’s a good choice for dinning out as family gatherings. The price is pretty unreasonable high. Their side-dish rice gonna charge you extra 5 money. For me it’s seems like they wanna make as much money as possible from each order. It is a stupid action, as a restaurant, you earn your profit from good quality food ,nice service, and return customers not just rap each customer wallet for sigle order.

I have been going to the Blue Mermaid occasionally now for over 40 years and sadly last night will be my last visit, as will my one other of my guests. Place was packed…out of their control and it is Christmas. Dinning room is small so when it’s full it’s very noisy. Piano music is lovely but adds to the noise level. Three cocktails, 3 appetizers, a bottle of wine (they were supposedly out of the $65 bottle so I had to bump up to the $95). One of my guests ordered the baked potato (an addition $6.50). When she was served her meal no baked potato. Waiter went back to kitchen then reappeared saying they had no baked potatoes…..tell me what fine dining restaurant would not have a baked potato on hand? Twenty minutes later we saw a dinner plate come out with a baked potato on it. Waiter fibbed but couldn’t own up to their error. Our tenderloins were less than satisfactory. I can get the same steak at any restaurant for a lesser cost. A couple of carrots, couple spears of asparagus and two slices of a potato. Two desserts. Bill came to over $500 for 3 people, tip on top of that. I like value for my money and I just don’t feel that I received that last night. What a disappointment for a special occasion. But I did enjoy my guests company.

We were hoping to recreate past experiences at The Blue Mermaid with dear friends: "The Blue Mermaid was amazing. Staff were polite, knowledgeable and attentive, and the setting was elegant. The highlight was the straight forward, high-quality food that wasn’t hidden behind a load of pomp and sauce. The food, matched with the experience, is definitely worth the asking price." Sadly, our experience, did not match our past memories. The one highlight was the Caesar Salad for two, prepared tableside. Lowlights, as compared to previous dining at the The Blue Mermaid, no one offered to hang up our winter coats, the relish tray was missing the flakes of salmon in the rice, with our main entrees---potatoes were substituted with instant "Minute Rice", portions were smaller, the quality of the food had dropped, and the coup de grace was one bill being presented to our party of 4 as, a fait a complit, never being asked if we were paying as couples and/or individuals. When we enquired about the bill, we were told that it was "insulting" to ask how the bill was to be presented. An extremely high price to pay for what turned out to be a disappointing dining experience at The Blue Mermaid. We will not be returning!

Everything was just excellent. Unlike a lot of fine restaurants, you won't leave hungry.

We had an overnight in St. Catharines and my wife remembered this restaurant from the past. It is not very big with about 50 seats. I started with a nice Pino Grigio to go with our garlic bread and the relish tray with pickle spears, black olives and seasoned cold rice.As my main course I decided to go for the special, chain pickerel (a pike like fish). It was pan seared, nicely seasoned and very good. It came with carrots, asparagus and wonderful roasted potatoes. A very good cappuccino (that passed the spoon test) was a good finish of this wonderful meal.It is not an inexpensive restaurant, but is really worth a visit.

This is a very small restaurant. We estimated 50-60 patrons could be seated in the dining room. Luckily for us, it was not crowded and we did not have other diners sitting close to us.It is not an inexpensive restaurant. The bread tray was very nice slices of garlic bread. There was also a relish tray with black olives, a seasoned cold rice and pickle spears.I choose the salmon. It was moist and delicious. It was served with a couple of asparagus spears and carrot, al dente!, and a really lovely roasted potato. The wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. Our only "problem" was figuring out the paid parking lot vs. the metered street parking. Had we dined an hour later, we would not have had to "feed the meter".

For the price, I'm sorry I expected more. The service should have been better. I think we saw 5 different people come to our table. And 1 even made a comment about our first server, that came right after we were seated. And some main dish items were a bit pricey. But if your going to charge that much for lamb. Don't serve new Zealand!!!!

Steaks were smaller than advertised, veal Marsala could not be cut (rubber) , lobster tails and kalamari were from frozen… all that with a price tag of a 5 star?
