I’ve been a fan of Helen’s Deli since the late ’90s, back when I first started working downtown and my co-workers introduced me to it. More than two decades later, I still find myself drawn back for the same reasons — no one in St. Catharines does a European-style deli quite like Helen’s.
Their salad bar is perfect for a quick grab-and-go lunch, with a wide range of fresh, flavourful options that keep things interesting. The hot deli, though, is where Helen’s really shines. Many of the dishes remind me of the hearty, comforting meals my German housekeeper used to make — rich stews, tender meats, and sides that taste like they’ve come straight from a home kitchen somewhere in Europe.
Helen’s isn’t the cheapest spot in town, but it’s worth every penny for the quality and the experience. For downtown office workers — or anyone who craves a touch of authentic European deli — this place is a true treasure. St. Catharines just wouldn’t be the same without it.

Amazing classic schnitzel and cabbage rolls, homemade style. Be careful not to get a parking ticket from this city’s over-zealous parking enforcement, though! They charge a minimum of one hour to park, choking off their few local businesses downtown, but they’re serious about giving tickets!

This place awesome. Its Got little treats and more than any deli has. Great for a quick lunch if your downtown. Also good for weekly meal combinations. Frozen soups, fresh deli, desserts, salad bar, the list goes on. Definitely worth checking out in your in the area.
Reason went for the food ofcourse. I've been hearing about the schnitzel on a bun. I got the bacon and honeymustard one.i think my expectations were higher or maybe it could used more honey mustard. For me it was a little dry. Don't get me wrong I ate it all and it was good. Just wasn't what I guess I expected.

Great place for lunch. Everything is fresh and mostly made to order. Staff are friendly and the facility is clean. There are some ledge window seats available for you to enjoy. Pastries here are awesome. No credit card surcharge. Prices all around are okay. No Free WiFi. Paid street parking out front. Paid lot and garage parking nearby. Bus terminal and stops nearby.

My girlfriend and I love it here; I was recommended this place by my mom, who used to come here every day for lunch over 20 years ago. Dozens of options, wide selection of hot food, a massive salad bar, sweets, drinks, sandwiches, and even their in house frozen items. Huge portion sizes at a low price. I always get either the Ruben or shepherds pie. My girlfriend has gotten something different almost every time and neither of us have been disappointed once.

We recently used Helen‘s deli for a large funeral for my father-in-law. He wanted a traditional German dinner. We ended up with over 400 people at the funeral and I called them last minute and they brought extra food . The food was delicious and everyone stayed longer than they should have because they enjoyed the food so much. It felt like a wedding celebration which what Walter would have wanted.
