Maybe the best gyro sandwich I've had since I moved to St Catharines, and at a very reasonable price! Cheers to the new owner Kevin and the friendly wait staff for making us feel so welcome. Looking forward to seeing the renovations take shape, so much potential here. We will be back!

Excellent breakfast. Excellent service. Place looked a little...dated...but otherwise fantastic. 10/10 would eat there regularily if we lived around there.

With new ownership I think this spot is due for a comeback. The new menu is more compact but still has some of their old dishes like the hungryman breakfast. The interior needs work, but it's much cleaner now than it has been in a while.

Food is still great overall, although our meats came very well don. The eggs were cooked perfectly.

This is a great downtown spot with a lot of history. I am excited to see where the new owners take it and I hope it turns to success.

It's a really friendly place with great staff. It's hard to find mom and pop places this one reminds me of years ago before all the fast food places. It's nice to see. I give it 10 stars instead of 5. Thank you for the service the Coffee and Rye toast guy.

I’ve been going to this place with my dad since I was a little kid and he was going before me when he was a teenager. If you’re looking for an affordable breakfast with Mediterranean hospitality this is the place for you! Thank you for the great childhood memories you’ve given over the years!
Love the Iova family🩷

Welcome to customer service purgatory — where hospitality comes to die, and coffee follows right after.
Walked into this brand new café hoping for a fresh start to my morning. Instead, I got a masterclass in indifference — courtesy of an elderly staff member who clearly missed the memo on what “service” means. I asked for creamer. She gave me black coffee like it was a power move. Asked for sugar? They tossed it in without stirring. Asked for a spoon? “We don’t have one,” she said — before magically producing one, then giving the coffee a passive-aggressive swirl that didn’t even pretend to mix the sugar.
The result? A hot cup of bitterness — and I’m not just talking about the coffee. One sip and I felt like I was drinking caffeinated pond water. I left it on the table because even my stomach has standards.
And then, as a final gift, I was rushed out like they were closing for the apocalypse. In the scramble, I lost my AirPods. Came back minutes later — no apology, no help, not even a token “Sorry you lost something.” Just blank looks and the warm glow of institutional apathy.
In short: if you’re into overpriced misery, aggressively mediocre coffee, and being treated like a burden — congratulations, you’ve found your spot.
Keys to power : Make your enemies regret , have em order a cup of coffee right before work watch with pure pleasure.

Food is always consistent , but after years of coming here i never noticed anyone smoking cigarettes indoors . When asked our server who the man smoking the cigarettes indoors was told “ owner of the restaurant “ . Found it odd , but also a welcoming scent to go with my morning coffee . 10/10 will always be back

I frequent this little restaurant in the heart of downtown St Catharines, on St Paul St.
It’s a family run business that down to earth atmosphere. As soon as I walk in I feel welcomed, at ease and part of the circle.
Every part as important is the food. Never had a meal that wasn’t delicious and carefully put together. The way mom (Pauline)would have.
I always look forward to my next visit.
Had a nice conversation with the kind owners who are there daily. Making sure everything runs as it should. As it has for 50+ years.
If you are looking to feel welcomed, cared for and satisfied in a clean and inviting environment? I recommend the
Sunset Restaurant. Enjoy

I have come here for years but.... I wont be back. Food is good but they charge you extra to use the in house debit machine. So they are making money and you are paying for the rental of the debit machine. So bring cash! Also my mom has a severe allergy we asked to sub a small salad and would pay a bit extra for her side. We were told salad costs more than the side and all we can give you is eggs. They would not even allow us to pay extra for a substitute. Poor customer service and accommodation by the owner for people who enjoy coming here and you refuse to accommodate happy regulars. All we got was a shrug of the shoulders.
