I went to Gus’s with my mom last Thursday. I ordered a clubhouse sandwich with a Caesar salad and a small coffee. The bill was around $30 just for my meal, before tip. The food was fine, but nothing that justifies that kind of price for a basic clubhouse and salad. The coffee, on top of that, was the smallest cup I’ve ever been served in a restaurant.
What really killed the experience was the tipping pressure and the service vibe. I was coming from court and wearing a suit, and the server spent most of the time giving me that “you’d better tip big” look rather than any genuine warmth. She took our order right away (we already knew what we wanted), brought the drinks, refilled my coffee once, dropped off the food… and that was basically it. No real check-ins, no conversation, nothing above bare minimum.
When we finished and were waiting for the bill, nobody came. I eventually got up and went to the front, only to be told the server had already gone home. No “I’m heading out,” no “someone else will take care of you,” just gone. The owner pointed to a tip jar and said they’d give it to her next time she was in. Being nudged to tip someone who left without a word felt pretty insulting.
On top of that, the place itself feels old and tired and could really use a renovation.
I’m honestly just tired of paying high prices and then feeling obligated to throw another 15–20% on top for very basic service. I’d much rather see restaurants pay a proper wage and drop the tipping pressure entirely, even if they have to adjust menu prices to be upfront about it.
There’s also no information anywhere about whether the kitchen staff get a share of the tips, which matters to me because I’m mostly there for the food, not for someone to walk plates to the table. Considering the prices, I’d much rather see a restaurant pay their staff a proper wage, be upfront about it, and drop the guilt-based tipping culture completely.
Between the overpriced food, the weird atmosphere, the server disappearing, and the heavy tip expectations for very basic service, I won’t be back and I can’t recommend this place.

I really did like it until today waited for so long just for drinks then ordered food and nothing after an hour not to mention didn’t even come back for refills amazing last time I was there I left a 40$ tip I will never go back there again.
I think this is my new favorite everyday restaurant. Nice decor, clean, very friendly, fast staff. Loved the food - the pea soup was so good, so was wife's pickerel.
The food is so good 😊

This is beyond great. Service is amazing. Food is so flavorful. Deserts are the ultimate finishing touch. I hate salad, but tried their Greek salad. I was wrong I love salad. This is not the old Gus's, this is ..... I can't describe it. You need to experience it to understand. The prices are very good. You will pay almost the same price for synthetic fast food, but this is real and freshly made.

This place has been around for over 70 years and there’s a reason why. It feels like taking a trip back in time when you walk in. Much of the decor probably hasn’t changed in 40+ years. The food is delicious and servings are all very generous. While you cannot compare this place to modern restaurants in terms of modern style, Gus’s provides a warm, friendly atmosphere with delicious food and owners who genuinely care about their business. Definitely worth checking out. Lots of parking in the lot beside and behind/above the restaurant.

Only staying in Sudbury two nights. We ate dinner here the first night and we're so impressed that we came back for breakfast the next morning. The food was homemade service was impeccable, and prices were great. Breakfast portions were so large that we called it brunch and didn't eat again until dinner. Highly recommend!
