So sorry to hear our favourite Japanese restaurant has closed. I have been going there since they opened. Great food and the staff was always friendly! Thank you for all the wonderful years

I hate kicking a place when it's down and closing, but the quality dropped since reopening after covid.Sad to see them go, but all good things must come to an end. Thanks for the memories with the good times.

Have been going to this place for years now, food is always quick and delicious, however the service is brutal. There is one waitress that is extremely rude, not impressed with my last visit.

I was a Kyoto house sushi regular < 2020 and was excited for AYCE sushi post pandemic... And then it closed. I finally gave Oishi Maki a try today, and I wish I had gone sooner. Great rolls, lots of fish and veg inside, great selection on the lunch menu. Looking forward to going again and bringing friends.

I recently visited a sushi restaurant located in historic downtown Whitby, and while the experience had its highlights, it left much to be desired. The restaurant boasted a wide and varied selection of sushi rolls, including some unconventional options with ingredients like bacon or fried chicken. While these off-brand rolls were intriguing, they failed to impress and fell short of being culinary home runs. One aspect that immediately struck me was the quality of the water served. A simple glass of water should be refreshing and clean-tasting, but unfortunately, it had an unpleasant hint of soap residue. This oversight in basic cleanliness left a negative impression right from the start. The ambiance of a restaurant plays a significant role in the overall dining experience, and unfortunately, this establishment fell short in that department as well. The choice of music was questionable at best, and my companions and I found ourselves more inclined to mock it rather than enjoy it. It seemed out of touch with the restaurant's atmosphere and didn't complement the dining experience.Despite these disappointments, I must acknowledge that the dynamite rolls, a staple of any sushi restaurant, were well-executed. The flavors were adequate, although they lacked the wow factor that would elevate them to a memorable level. It was evident that the kitchen had some skill, but it fell short in terms of consistency and innovation. In light of the above, I believe it is time for this sushi restaurant to step up its game. With the growing historic downtown Whitby, patrons have come to expect more from their dining experiences. It's crucial for the establishment to either revamp its menu, enhance the quality and creativity of its dishes, and invest in staff training to ensure consistency. Moreover, addressing the issues with cleanliness and ambiance would greatly contribute to creating a more enjoyable atmosphere.Overall, my visit to this sushi restaurant was a mixed bag. While some aspects showed promise, others fell short, leaving me feeling underwhelmed. I hope the establishment takes this feedback into account and makes the necessary improvements to either fit in with the evolving dining scene of downtown Whitby or consider moving on to new endeavors.
Kid-friendliness: Despite the shortcomings of the sushi restaurant, one aspect that stood out was the attentive staff. From the moment we entered, they greeted us with warm smiles and promptly seated us. Throughout our meal, they were attentive to our needs, checking in regularly to ensure we had everything we needed. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offering recommendations and answering our questions. Despite the restaurant's other shortcomings, the staff's professionalism and attentiveness added a positive touch to the overall dining experience.

I came here the other day to get the all you can eat sushi. The sushi was alright, but I just was in absolute disbelief of how terrible the service was. I'm unsure if the woman serving me was the owner or what. But she made absolute no effort of being kind to us. She seemed almost annoyed that we were even there. After we sent one order through she hinted that I couldn't put another order through. While I was trying to put my second order through she was standing there trying to hurry me, takes the order paper out of my hand and then proceeded to also take the menue away from me. We weren't even there long at all. I've never had such bad service in my life. Not to mention she was extremely rude to a bunch of teenagers who came in and they ended up leaving due to her ignorance.

I would be hard pressed to recall a time when I’ve ever felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. The server clearly didn’t want us to be there, or maybe she didn’t want to be there, perhaps both. The food wasn’t bad by any means, and the atmosphere was forgettable but by no means offensive. I am just utterly baffled by how poor quality the service was. It’s nice to walk into a restaurant and feel like a welcomed guest, but I’ll settle for feeling like just another customer, here I pretty much felt like a trespasser who stepped the family pet on my way through the door.

Love this restaurant! Will always be one of my favourite sushi AYCE . Good price and great staff
Place smelled really weird/unclean. A few things we ordered we couldn't even tell what they were because they weren't made as listed on the menu. Sauces and fillings were mixed up between what we ordered. Rolls were deep fried when not specified.Someone on staff was watching something on their phone loudly the whole time. We went on a weekday but it was just a weird experience overall.Food was decent but didn't really stand out especially for the price, not sure why this place is so highly rated and raved about on a certain local food FB group.
Very good price for all you can eat. Spicy salmon rolls, the tempura shrimp, tempura eggplant, volcano maki, and green dragon rolls were great. Even the green tea ice cream was good. The only annoying thing is parking
Parking: Free street parking on weekends, and weekdays after 6pm

I had the pleasure of visiting Oishi Maki in Whitby and I have to say, the sushi was satisfactory. The menu had a wide variety of options to choose from, which was great to see. I particularly enjoyed the spider roll and the dragon roll. The restaurant itself was clean, modern and inviting, and the staff were friendly. While I had a positive experience, I would suggest that the prices were on the higher side, especially for those on a budget. In summary, if you're looking for a decent sushi spot in Whitby, Oishi Maki is worth a visit.
Sushi tasted like a Costco set but 3x more expensive.I didn’t like the old way you need to order. Instead of the screen, you still need to write down the numbers on the paper every time. The overall atmosphere reminds some old house with the smelly furniture.

Honestly was very disappointed :(Had heard such good things about this sushi spot and was so excited to try it. We booked a reservation since it’s a weekend and thought it would be really busy, they didn’t ask for a name, phone number or anything. The customer service wasn’t good, it felt we were being rushed to finish. They grabbed a plate that we weren’t finished with and then scrambled to grab an empty one.The staff said all of 3 words to us the whole hour we were there (first booth, one bill? And thanks) we didn’t know how to order since it was our first time there (some places are iPads, papers given etc) - we later discovered ourselves that the paper to write what we wanted was on the wall but no one had shown us or conversed with us at all.The sushi was good. But overall the dine in experience was subpar.
This AYCE is a hidden gem. The quality and the size of their servings are surprisingly bigger than normal. I enjoyed having spent dinner here! Will definitely come again!
