The cozy atmosphere made me feel right at home, and the staff were attentive and friendly. It's my favorite Chinese & Thai restaurant in the Durham region. Second visit. First time a year ago and was okay, but not as good as some Hakka Chinese places in Ajax.Today had take out. Ordered Manchurian and Szechuan, but with noodles instead of rice. Terrible. Terrible. See video. Hardly any chicken. Zero vegetables. Both meals exactly the same in flavour. My favorite is Manchurian because of the taste. This place is a joke. Nothing fresh. I scrolled through pictures on reviews...well look at our video...garbage.

If you like flavourful Asian food, especially the Indian style Hakka Chinese version, then you have to try The Big Zen in Whitby. I went there recently with a group of foodie friends. We tried several dishes, including their Thai offerings and everything was very tasty. We all enjoyed it!Our outing started with some refreshing beverages, including a Pina Colada, Mango Lassi, Mango Juice, Thai Iced Tea, and more. All good!A few of us tried their Hot and Sour, and Tom Yum soups. Both were very good, with one person in our group declaring the Hot and Sour to be the best she's ever had!The rest of our meal included:- Steamed Chicken Momos- Crispy Ginger Beef- Papaya Salad- Bombay Chicken- Zen Special Chicken- Chicken Fried Rice w/Chicken on Top- Manchurian Fish- Thai Green Curry Chicken- Hot Garlic ShrimpRather than writing detailed descriptions of each dish, I'll just say that they were all very flavourful and delicious! I would definitely order any of them the next time.The restaurant is comfortably spacious, with clean, modern decor. The service that we received was excellent! I definitely recommend dining here!

It was my third time here at this restaurant, the coconut soup was good, tried the chicken coconut soup earlier which I felt is better than the seafood coconut soup.The fried rice is bad, every time I have tried it, it’s either bland or stale, tasteless and saltless. Never ordering rice in this restaurant. The pad thai noodles are ok.The papaya salad is good and the side items like mango chicken, sesame chicken are good but not the best.Vermicelli was not good as well.I think they should simplify the menu and focus on some items.Tried hakka legend in Scarborough which tastes better but that was back in 2022.

This restaurant specializes in Indian Hakka and Thai food.I Tried the following Dishes:Bombay Chicken, Hot Sour Soup, Zen Special Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken on Top, Manchurian Fish, Hot Garlic Shrimp, Papaya Salad, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Steamed Chicken Momo, Crispy Ginger BeefI normally wouldn't choose to order soup, as I like to fill up on the heartier dishes but I was absolutely blown away by their Hot and Sour Soup. It's not overly sour and to me it was the perfect flavor profile. It was thick and loaded with tofu and chicken.The Bombay Chicken and Zen Special Chicken were both flavorful and unique chicken dishes. The crispy ginger beef was cooked to perfection; i'd definitely order it again.If you're looking for something tasty to drink their mango Lassi is superb. It's sweet and creamy. I loved it! The Thai Milk Tea was also a knock out. It was sooo good!!!
