This review is from a number of months ago but the experience still boggles my mind. We’ve been in a few times and never made to feel welcome by the bartender (the younger one). The last time we were having some difficulty getting served - ignoring us, keeping his back to us, serving others first. Finally, he said he would serve us but that the bar was “really for regulars.” Two of us left and 3 stayed for 1 drink. Even the regulars were embarrassed for us. We really like the atmosphere and the people but know when we’re not wanted.

I have lived in Whitby for nearly 8 years and just recently was invited to The Downpatrick, where I enjoyed a harp with cordial. The staff and guests were very inviting. I would love to go back again where it will definitely remind me of the TV show Cheers, where everyone knows your name ?

As close to a good hole in the wall Irish pub you will find outside of Ireland.Stopped in for a pint of Guinness, the barman knows his stuff, proper pour Was caught off guard by the 'cash only' otherwise we would have stayed longer and ate.BRING CASH ?

If you like Guinness then your search is over. The man behind the bar knows exactly how things should be. At 5.50 a pint you can't go wrong. I go in with a 20 in hand and three pints later I leave with a smile.

$5.50 a pint Guinness. Yes you read that right. Best Guiness in Whitby. Cash only which is fine with me. Missing a trick not having an ATM but again dont really care. You come here for the conversation with the regulars and the $5.50 a pint Guinness

The place is very small and it caters to a lot of older customers. I am in my mid 40s but If you are in your mid 50s or 60s this place is for you. Oh ya, your debit or credit card is no use here. This place only takes cash.

Nice small little bar. If you like Guinness, this is where you come. The bartender has the perfect poor. The foam coats the tip all the way to the bottom of the drink keeping the beer fresh to the last sip.

This is exactly what I expected. Guinness pints are $4.50 taxes in. Bring your own food from down the street. Keep your debit card in your pocket. Cash only up front.Note - Guinness pints are "up" to $5.50 now. Call it inflation. Everything else is the same.
