The resort is a bit dated but fits perfectly with my expectation of cottage country.

The staff is very friendly and helped with all of my needs.

Lots of stuff to do and very quiet.

The only thing is the spa treatments we thought included wine and a snack of cooked veggies which was kind of weird.

The pool is very clean.

The food is amazing.

BEWARE - The accommodations are NOT Five Star! They charge you in full upon your arrival before you see the accommodations so you have no recourse. Although it’s located on a beautiful lake and we have no complaints on the meals, the grounds are very unkept - the grass around the accommodations are knee high. Not what is expected for a 5 Star resort. They also charge $20 per night to park in a dusty dirt/gravel parking lot which leaves your vehicle covered in dust! For the premium price this resort charges, parking should be included.

We spent 3 nights in the Lyra Chateau this past June and we were very disappointed with the accommodations. Besides being VERY dated, the smell of fireplace smoke inside this Chateau was absolutely terrible, it smelled like a burnt out building! We called the front desk they sent a maintenance person with a machine called “Restorator”. While we were outside unloading our luggage the couple staying in the same style chateau next door said the air quality due to the smell of fireplace smoke was very bad in their chateau as well. They asked the maintenance person for a machine too. Regretfully, all the machine did was attempt to mask the air with a freshener of some sort. We did open some windows but, couldn’t leave the main living room door onto the deck open nor the front door as there weren’t any screen doors on them so bugs and chipmunks had access. The smell of smoke remained throughout our stay as it is imbedded in all the soft surfaces and when we arrived home all our clothes wreaked of smoke. Note: I brought the fireplace smoke matter to the front desk’s attention at check out and the response was “that’s strange as all the fireplaces have been recently cleaned”.

The hot tub cover was a disgrace and should have been replaced long ago, we could barely get it off the hot tub due to its deterioration and extreme weight as it was completely waterlogged. The carpet was very dirty in front of the couch, so dirty you wouldn’t want to sit there in bare feet. The carpet was dirty in other areas, as well as being worn out/tattered too.

We were very disappointed as this resort did not meet a 5 star level accommodation, perhaps 1 or 2 at best. The only thing 5 Star was the price! It was not our expectation after paying a premium price for same.

We wrote a complaint to the attention of the General Manager/Owner and received a boilerplate response letter thanking us for our comments etc. from Mary, the Office Manager. We again requested our complaint be sent to the General Manager/Owner and Mary advised it would be forwarded. Two weeks later, no response. Wrote them again, no response! Contacted “Resorts of Ontario” as they list them on their website and they called and spoke with Mary and requested we receive a response from the owner, still no response! Worst customer service and unprofessionalism ever and certainly not how a 5 Star resort should conduct themselves.

We’re hopeful “Resorts of Ontario” who describe themselves as “your excursion experts” will do a full review of this resort and remove them or at minimum, downgrade their rating as this is not a 5 Star accommodation and they should not be supporting them as one on their website!

In closing - don’t be fooled by their website as we were, after paying an exorbitant rate!
BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!

Would not go back.

Disappointing Return Visit – Not Worth the Premium Price

I had high hopes returning to Couples Resort, especially with such fond memories from a previous visit—but unfortunately, this experience fell far short of expectations.

The meal options were extremely limited, and the food itself was mediocre at best. Despite providing clear instructions for dietary needs, the chef still didn’t get it right, and the portion sizes were incredibly small. For a place that markets itself as upscale and romantic, the dining experience felt more like an afterthought than a highlight.

The staff was pleasant, but not as exceptional or attentive as I remember. There was a noticeable drop in service quality compared to previous visits, which was disappointing given the premium rates.

But what really bothered me was the $20-per-night parking fee. After paying top dollar to stay at the resort, being charged extra just to park on-site felt like a cash grab. Where else are guests supposed to park? It’s the kind of nickel-and-diming that leaves a bad impression.

All in all, Couples Resort seems to have lost its charm, quality, and attention to detail. Sadly, it no longer feels worth the cost—and we won’t be returning.

Disappointing! Website information not up to date, with considerable mis-information. No restaurant breakfast, in room only. Meals offered at slotted times. On arrival the only supper available was 8:15pm (far too late). Our breakfast slots were 9:45am & 10am! When supper was finished, everything was closed! No pre-dinner bar for drinks (patio closed at 5pm). Only two tables available for 4 people, we had to eat on separate tables. Wait staff were friendly, but not well trained, slow and service was inconsistent - not the quality we would expect. At lunchtime even slower, cold coffee. Poor selection of wines. The rooms and decor were very tired, carpet worn out and dirty. Landscaping and grounds very overgrown and untended. Overall NOT value for money. Very disappointed that this wasn’t the special treat we were hoping for.

An all inclusive resort for couples only. A nice mix of casual during the day and a little fancier in the dining room for dinner. Relax, unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet of the near North. Nestled.in Whitney and Algonquin a delightful get away. Great food, excellent service.

It’s been seven years since we were at this resort. A recent move would make this destination perfect for us.
Pros: Food was as good and just as consistent as our last visit. Although they have an active vegetable garden as they once did. Water staff, very helpful and accommodating.
Cons: $20 to park per night (not such a big deal, yet a cash grab, this is the case, even if you rent a cottage with private parking).
Zero room service - during the three nights we stayed there, the bed was never made, we had to go to the front desk for toiletries, dirty classes and cups were never washed or replaced. We asked for new cups and were asked to wash them ourselves (sadly) No fresh towels.
It’s basically 4 star spot, on the decline for some time, with far less than three star room service. Underwhelming.
Will we return? - not unless there is a deal.

My wife and I have come here 6 times now and we love it! Incredible views and opportunities to explore Algonquin park right next door. The food is fantastic and there’s a hot tub AND jacuzzi in every room! We come every year and hope to continue as such. It’s absolutely worth the drive, especially since the scenery is gorgeous as soon as you’re out of the GTA
