This place went to the gutter, new owners took away alcohol, this place is going to close down in the next 3 months, let alone the new lighting and paint makes it an aggressive place to be inside, can’t even take away the tension with alcohol.
I started coming here with my girlfriend every Tuesday for panzo special and to wash it down with a nice cheap pint. Now, the bar is empty and I can’t even feel like I’m in Windsor, I feel like I’m in jail eating jail food. It’s really depressing. I could keep going on but this new owner already has to go. Halal is not apart of an Italian restaurant, u want halal go to halal culture it’s that simple. U can’t bring it to Italy and u can’t bring it to famous Windsor style pizza

New owners, no alcohol anymore and distasteful inside with no nostalgia of the great joint it once was. Sadly will no longer be able to set foot in this disgrace of Sam’s Pizzeria and Cantina as it would dishonour the great establishment it once was. I give it til new year before it’s kicked to the curb.
Sadly, the previous owners from earlier this year, sold to a new owner whose culture/faith, doesn't allow for alcohol of any kind. The inside of the restaurant is shocking and depressing now. All the previous decor has been removed, including the neon signs and advertising labels for wineries, beer and liquor. All the beer taps have been dismantled, all the liquor & wine bottles removed. All the alchohol glasses removed. This has left the side wall behind the counter completely bare. There was not a single patron in the restaurant but for myself. I can understand why the jazz band that normally plays there on Friday nights, was not there. The soul of the restaurant is gone. It's dark inside without the previous decorations. This app allows a minimum of one stars. If I could give zero stars I would. Word has spread through the University campus and local residents. How can a person who enjoys wine with their italian food, eat it with a soda? I do not see the new owner's purchase fairing well as the months go by. Sam's Pizzeria will be on life support in six months and gone in 12 months. It can possibly be saved if it becomes a Shwarma/middle-eastern take-out spot with a name change. Goodbye Sam's Pizzeria and Cantina, it was wonderful knowing you.

This used to be the pizza place I’d hit whenever I came to visit. Solid food, good vibe, and most importantly... pizza and beer. A combo older than civilization itself. Walked in tonight only to find out the new owner has decided to stop serving alcohol.
Genius move. Absolutely brilliant. Because what better way to keep a pizza restaurant thriving in a university town than by banning the one thing 90% of your customer base is here for? I mean, who even wants a cold beer with their hot pizza after a long day? Not me, obviously. Totally overrated.
It’s like running a movie theater and proudly announcing you’ve banned popcorn because it makes a mess. Sure, the pizza might still be fine, but the soul of the place? Gone.
So congrats to the new owner. You're a business genius.
Another owner change and this time the liquor license is gone. Just basically a take out or delivery place now with a pizza quality that gets worse with each new owner. I’ve been a customer since 1983 and it no longer has a connection to the past - nor a reason to go as the atmosphere is gone. There are many other choices for authentic pizza parlour/pub scene in Windsor. My suggestion is they rebrand. Hopefully the new owners can make a go of it. Good luck.
Very high quality Windsor Ontario style pizza .grate atmosphere friendly staff . I will be going back many times in the near future. If your in the neighborhood stop by for a slice and a beer you will not regret it .If beers not your thing they have liquor licours and expresso made fresh in front of you enjoy your visit .
I used to order here all the time as a student back in 2012, and decided to order last night again for the first time in years. I have to say it’s just as amazing if not more now then it was then!!!!! Hands down the best Alfredo I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve tried many in the city, and the pizza and arancini were also to die for and so fresh and flavour packed. I will be coming back regularly!!!!

Horrible pizza quality for the price. With so many other options I would never choose Sam's again.

I am from Sault Ste Marie where we have very authentic Italian pizzerias! I have yet to be impressed by pizza, from anywhere outside of S.S.M! Until now!! Although they made an error of green peppers, instead of green olives... I called and they apologized, immediately corrected and sent out a new one at no charge! Their Hawaiian and meat lovers are absolutely fantastic 👌 and the delivery driver who is new, was so polite and sweet! I 100% recommend, and will order from them again!
