It’s such a cool little spot. The patio is small but spacious all at the same time.
I wish they had a few stouts or porters on tap to complement the bbq which is awesome

We have always raved about Sawyer’s as we’ve always eaten in.
However wanting to get back to the states we decided to take our cob salad home.
It was about half the size we get while eating in.
I will order in then take it home in a to- go box.
Hate to complain because we really love this place.
Guess we just learned from our mistake.
So please do take out especially if taking back to US before seeing what’s in your container.
We will still be back, but cautious!
Their Caesar Mary was delicious!

I contacted Sawyer's privately through Facebook Messenger but have yet to receive a reply, so I guess I'll try discussing my issues here. I took my wife and my brother (all of us over 60yrs) out on a Sunday afternoon around 5pm on Aug 24th. The server was very nice (we tipped $20 on a $110 tab) but we were underwhelmed with the food and experience. I'm not a big patio person, but it seemed better than the cramped quarters of the interior restaurant. I know they can't control the flys and bees that pestered us, but that is part of why the experience was so poor. My brother is 260lbs and ordered a rack of ribs ($48). He had two and couldn't stomach them anymore. My wife and I each tried one and agreed that we make tastier ribs at home on the BBQ. My wife had brisket. The brisket was tastey, but she was shocked that all she got was 4 thin slices for the approx $20 cost. It's all a la carte, so nothing came for her but the 4 slices of meat. I had the Fat B Burger which consisted of Brisket and Pork Butt. It was tasty, but when I saw Onion Rings as part of the meal, I assumed it was more than two laid on the burger. The water they brought in a carafe was room temperature (no ice), had the taste of poor tap water, and it had a sediment of granuals (grit? spices? dirt?) in the bottom of the carafe.
Now part of my skewed perspective is that I'm used to getting more for my money at The Keg or almost any restaurant in Michigan. I found it over price for small portions and average food. Not sure if I just hit them on a bad night.

I really really wanted to love this place but, unfortunately, it was just meh, and barely.

I dined in on an early Friday afternoon. There was one other person dining in when I got there. Idk what he ordered but he was raving about it so I was optimistic and excited that I had finally had an opportunity to try the place out.

I was greeted/ seated/ given water & menu pretty quickly after I arrived. A few folks came by for take out and others came to dine in so it wasn’t “dead” but not terribly busy either.

I had a little trouble choosing so I asked the server what their favourite item on the menu was and they replied the Brisket Fried Rice which seemed weird to me for some reason so I went with my own selection of brisket sandwich and the potato salad.

Perhaps I should have gone with the recommendation because my choice was clearly not a good choice. The brisket was like 80% fat and the one or two pieces of meat that I did get were, oddly enough, really dry. It came at room temperature. The dill potato salad had tons of fresh dill, which barely saved the salad. Without the dill the salad had zero flavour - no seasoning or even salt. I did get a couple of pieces of apple but they were so small that they had barely any noticeable impact on the taste.

The meal was disappointing and I ate very little of it - was offered a to-go container which I refused. Taking it home wasn’t going to make it taste any better - although, admittedly now I realize I could have taken the potato salad home and doctored it up. Oh well!

Like I said, I really really wanted to love this place and I wanted to leave not feeling so disappointed so, although I wouldn’t normally order desert & since I ate very little of my meal, I decided to try the banana cream pie which only added to the disappointment.

There was no description on the menu for the banana cream pie so I assumed, as I suspect most would, that I would get a slice of banana cream pie. Wrong. Idk if this is supposed to be some “new pie” thing but I basically received a plastic to-go container filled with cream and bits of banana on top. It was weird. I did not like it. As I dug into it I discovered the “crust” was an arrowroot cookie. The cream was a bit heavy on cinnamon or nutmeg, which wasn’t unpleasant, but definitely not banana cream pie. The banana bits on top were obviously banana chips that became semi rehydrated leaving them with a weird unpleasant chewy unchewy texture.

The server came by pretty quick with my bill but I was planning to sit there catching up on emails etc for a little bit so didn’t bother to get up to go pay but then they came by in short time with the debit machine. I felt like I was being rushed out. There was still plenty of seats and not as though they needed my seat but this just added to my disappointing experience so I just decided to be on my way.

This feels like brutal review but it’s an honest one. I have never written such a poor review and especially for a small neighborhood establishment.

I even considered not writing a review at all but after some contemplation, I decided that given how poor my lunch was & how ridiculously expensive it was, I had a responsibility to give my honest review for others.

It’s not like it was a cheap meal that I could just figure “oh well” and chalk it up as live and learn and never go back - which I probably won’t do anyway - it was a terribly expensive bad experience.

We came in for some Texas BBQ and were completely blown away. The ribs were perfect—tender and juicy—and their sauces were seriously next-level. So many unique and flavorful options, not just your typical bottled stuff.
The whole meal was a great value, but what really made the night was our server, “Q”. He was truly one of the best servers we’ve ever had. He was so on top of everything, helpful with the menu, and just made us feel welcome. We'll definitely be back the next time we're craving BBQ.

I called in a panic as another establishment failed us. I needed food for a family dealing with the loss of a loved one. They came to our rescue. They put together an amazing spread for 10 people in 15 minutes. Thank you a so much for saving the day.

The first time I ordered takeout I was impressed with everything. The second time I dined in and was pretty disappointed. The two slices of brisket I ordered were mostly fat, barely any meat. Apparently it depends on the slice you get, but for that price I think they could try to give you a nicer piece. I can't even imagine what you would do if you ordered a brisket sandwich and it had that much fat. The smoked turkey seems to be consistently a good choice. That alone I would go back for. The potato salad and coleslaw were really good. I wish they had a platter option so you can try mutliple proteins. If you don't go with a group that wants to share it is pricey to get a 1/3 lb of each protein to try plus sides. The sides are not even included with the sandwiches, everything is a la carte. Also, our own fault, but I wish we sat inside even though it is super tiny, the bugs on the patio were horrendous!
