We grabbed breakfast here while road-tripping from Washington to Colorado -- was a great decision. Food and coffee were both excellent, and the staff were nice to chat with. The historical building makes it a nice place to catch a break and enjoy some local art. My girlfriend had some dietary restrictions, and they were really good at navigating them.

Vegetarian options: They were very open to modifying things to make them veg, at least in our experience.

Dietary restrictions: They were good at navigating vegetarian and dairy allergy requirements.

Sweet Wife has become more than just the local bakery, it’s a hometown institution. The owners care deeply about the community; the staff is friendly as well as knowledgeable about the area, not to mention that the food, pastries, drinks and atmosphere are on par with, (if not surpassing) any establishment you’ll find in higher population centers. As someone born, raised, and returned to Baker City to open their own business, I count our town lucky to be the home to the one and only Sweet Wife Bakery.

Busy bakery and breakfast and lunch spot. Fabulous baked goods of all sorts. This time we got the chocolate bubka and the cardonman twist. Terrific. Great ambiance. Counter service. Very efficient.

We didn't actually get to eat there but they're excellent food is well known. We were staying right upstairs for them and hoping to have some breakfast but there were no empty tables and we really felt like being waited on so we opted for the Oregon Trail Motel Restaurant. We were hoping to hit them on Saturday but sadly they are no longer open on the weekends. Maybe next time!

This is a very cute little café in historic downtown Baker City. There are not a lot of tables and the place is crowded first thing in the morning. Most people seem to grab something and going. We were there for breakfast so we found a table and I made out order. We elected to have eggs benedict. We were not disappointed. The scratch made biscuits were actually the icing on this savory cake. They were amazing!

We also got two chocolate hazelnut babkas to go, but it took a little while to get our food so we ended up eating the babkas while we waited. Um, they were incredible. This place is a knock it out of the park café that you don't see coming. I hope the folks of Baker City know what a treasure this café is. We were spending the rest of the week looking for any possible openings in our schedule that we could try and go back here. It wasn't possible, but we are looking to head there in the next week or two because we can't stop thinking about that meal.

The service was a little slow, but they were training some new folks and it was really busy, so I can't fault them for some hiccups. They were all very lovely people doing their best. When they get everyone trained and work out the kinks what a miracle of modern small business they will be.

If you are anywhere near Sweet Wife Baking and it is open, forget everything else and go here for your next meal, dessert, or whatever.

Started with a maple twist then moved on to the best tomato soup ever + grilled cheese. Can’t go wrong. Breakfast burrito was top notch as well. Great coffee and service was awesome, very friendly place. Outdoor seating in back worked nicely for our dog. Would come here every morning if I could.

Stopped in for a bite on our way to Boise. It’s not out of the way but it would be worth it if it was. Excellent food. Wonderful people.

This was our third road trip from CO to OR and we intentionally plan it around this bakery so we can arrive at opening. The staff are always so welcoming and the pastries are out of this world. Best sticky bun I’ve ever had!!
