Best meal in Cannon Beach, and one of our favorite restaurants we've ever visited. My husband and I stay in Cannon Beach every year for our anniversary and we make a point to eat at Castaways as often as possible - sometimes even twice in one day! The food is incredible, we literally crave the lobster bisque all year long. We can't wait to come back! Don't miss an opportunity to dine here; the meals are creative and delicious, and the service is friendly and inviting. Enjoy!

Four of us enjoyed dinner on a Thursday evening. We had a 7:00 reservation and had to wait a few minutes for the table to clear, no big deal. We were seated, ordered cocktails, and selected our meals. Cocktails delivered, all very tasty. Our server then proceeded to deliver a complimentary appetizer of heirloom tomatoes and burrata cheese as a thank you for being patient while we waited for our table. Totally unnecessary, but totally delicious. All our meals were all delicious. Our service was attentive. The chef even came out afterward to check on us and answer any questions we had about our meals. This place was a gem.

Out here for vacation and had some of the locals mention this restaurant. Definitely didn't disappoint!

Ate dinner there last night and was really disappointed. The menu descriptions sound really tasty and I have never had more bland, tasteless food at a restaurant as expensive as this. I spent $89 for two people before tip. My fiancé had two appetizers (Fried ravioli w/spinach, and coconut prawns), I had the Tostada. The prawns didn't seem like they had any coconut (certainly no flavor) and the ravioli was tasteless. I expected my tostada to taste good as it supposedly had Hatch chile (I used to live near there and its the best chile in the world) Couldn't taste it at all and really couldn't detect any taste in the food. Lastly, my fiancé ended up with sever gastric distress soon after leaving there and was sick all night. We are local and can definitely say we won't be back.

Beyond my expectations. Some of the best cuisine I have had in some time at a restaurant, including Portland. Hard to get into but worth it.

Best meal in Cannon Beach, by far. And one of the best meals I’ve had! Etoufee was just perfect, meats were tender and melt in your mouth, sauces the perfect compliment. Reservations are a must but you will NOT be disappointed. Highly recommended.

SO happy this place was open on a day it is normally closed. Comfortable atmosphere, wagyu cooked to perfection... the female owner was such a delight. Highly recommend!

Parking: We parked right up front!

Castaways is, in our experience, sadly no longer the same restaurant we've previously enjoyed so much. Perhaps it was a change with the executive chef or another key player. It's just not at the same level of quality in almost all areas -- food, service and menu are now all subpar. The atmosphere is the same as it has been for a number of years (since they moved into the new building).

Menu -- the flair and eclectic mix of the previous menu is gone. Had the menu been posted online, we may not have even dined at Castaways.

Food -- generic and bland is, unfortunately, also an apt description of the food as well. The sole? So encrusted that the flavor of the fish was completely masked. Making the dish even worse was that the lemon sauce had nearly no flavor with barely a hint of lemon. The lemon sauce was so faint that it made the flavor of the breading on the sole all the more pronounced making the dish completely unbalanced. The stroganoff was not any better. The desserts were even worse. For example, the fresh peach cobbler was basically a small 2" by 3" by about 1/2" thick bit of what tasted like a cake biscuit over an incredibly thin layer (1/4") of peaches. The entire dish was buried in heaping mounds of whip cream, which seemed like a failed attempt to make up for the lack of any substance in the dish. The saddest attempt at dessert I've ever experienced in any restaurant anywhere.

Service -- uncomfortably bad.

Best dinner of our lives. The exquisitely tender jumbo scallops with rum maple bacon popcorn butter sauce on polenta squares for an appetizer…. was beyond words delicious. Halibut crusted in Parmesan with lobster sauce, mashed potatoes and zucchini was absolutely perfect. The Creole Étouffée was full of andouille sausage, tender shrimp, crab and scallops topped with rice. The dish was packed with flavor. Our taste buds were dancing and singing!

We enjoyed a lovely lunch at this well done restaurant. The service was timely and the chef even came out to make sure we were happy with our food. The spice level of the jambalaya was perfect, just what we ordered. We will stop again!
