Stopped off here on our way to Leslie Gulch. The team that was working on 11/1 - hats off to you! From the very kind lady working the front of house by herself managing all the customers coming in to the back of the house making our delicious breakfast we had, and our to go burgers we had for dinner - wow! They were obviously hand shaped huge patties (not the frozen stuff) and had all the right fixins for a perfect burger.
We also met two pilots who had literally just flown in on the air strip that is on the right that is right next to the cafe and were telling us about their awesome project to help other pilots flying. Very efficient and kind service.
Thank you Rome Station for your hospitality and reasonable prices! There’s even a snack and supply area to buy stuff if you need.

Just a really cool place to explore. The pillars of rome and the volcanic landscape are breathtaking.

Best burger in a long time.
There is not much in the way of options coming up the road for food so they could not put in effort but I will tell they put in extre effort for a great atmosphere, great attitude and comfortable picnic/country vibe. We we in the road for 12 hours and the lunch was so good and so filling we didn't need to stop for dinner. If you get a chance to stop I highly recommend it. And definitely try the cookies

Great place to stop for a meal. Their turkey clubhouse sandwiches, burgers, chicken club sandwich, onion rings, and cookies are so delicious. The employees are always nice as are the regulars that show up. Everyone's always real friendly with kids too.

Rome Station is more than just a restaurant mind you, they’re a STATION stop. You can get gas, diesel, beer and limited snacks / groceries. They serve up a fine cup of hot coffee to many a wayfaring stranger or desert rat. They got an RV park and cabin rentals too if you wanna hang around to maybe check out this stretch of the Owyhee.

We stopped here on a recent trip to stay in one of the cabins. The cabin was clean, had power, ac, satellite tv, bathroom, and room for 3. While it was nothing spectacular, it was cozy enough, affordable and the only option for a long ways. We ate dinner in the store and it was pretty good also. Gas prices were comparable with others in this remote corner of the state. While we were there a really bad thunderstorm came through and knocked the power out while a wildfire down the road burned up a couple dozen power poles making sure that it wouldn't come back on while we were there. I would note that the backup generator is quite loud and you may want to rethink staying the night if the powers out. The other downside is that the cabins are close to the road so you get the noise from all trucks going down the highway which can be a little unnerving. The people working at the store we were all pleasant and nice to talk to. We will definitely stop in again the next time we come through the area.

I got stuck, alone, in the desert about 4 miles out from Rome Station. I walked to the Station and tried to call my family and a towing company. I had no service on my phone. The people at Rome Station were kind enough to let me use their phone. One employee was kind enough to keep me company for the 5-6 hours I waited for a tow truck. He made sure I was okay, wasn’t hungry or thirsty, and went above and beyond. I also rented a cabin, as it was late when my car was finally freed from the sand. The cabin was clean, comfy, and very nice for the price. I’m very thankful for the kindness everyone at Rome Station showed me that day.

I’d like to preface this unfortunate review with some good experiences. The owner of this establishment, Joel, is a really nice man with a great business model. My partner and I homestead in the area and frequent Rome Cafe at least 1-2 times a week, sometimes more, generally for lunch or dinner after a hot day. We’ve had excellent experiences with employees like Chris, Steve, and Sherry. Good food, good conversation, friendly smiles. They’re ways happy to see us and happy to fill our water bottles up with ice water on our way out, free of charge, as they understand we live in a desert without access to AC. At a regular stop at the cafe, we buy two meals, a few bags of ice, and tip anywhere between 20%-30%. We think Joel and the majority of his employees are kind, friendly folk and we have enjoyed supporting this small business.

This morning, we stopped in for breakfast. The owner’s son, Joseph, who manages the cafe, was the only one working. On the occasions we do stop in while Joseph is working, he is generally unpleasant. No smiles, no greetings, just few words and some grunts. He acts as though it’s a chore to see us. Despite his demeanor and unhygienic appearance, we’ve been nothing but kind to him. We smile, we tip, we say thank you. While we were eating breakfast today, a customer passing through town made small talk with us and asked if we were regular customers. Before we even had a chance to respond, Joseph butted in with “Unfortunately”. When we went to settle the bill, he charged us for putting ice in our water bottles. We have heard through extensive conversations that most locals do not frequent this business anymore, mainly due to Joseph’s attitude and management style since he took over. The majority of customers now are those passing through town, stopping because gas, food, and bathrooms are another 30-60 miles away. If the manager sees regular customers as “unfortunate”, this would explain why locals no longer stop in.

We have generally enjoyed our visits to Rome Cafe, excepting Joseph’s terrible attitude and hostility towards. We regret to say we no longer plan to spend our money at this establishment. If someone else were in charge, we may be making a different decision. Thank you to the employees who have treated us with exceptional service. We are sorry to have to leave a review like this.

If you’re passing through town, we’d recommend you only stop by Rome Cafe on Weekday Evenings, or on Weekends, when it is less likely you will have to interact with Joseph.

We stayed in the RV park for one night. The majority of the property is a junk yard that includes very sketchy abandoned mobile homes adjoining the RV area. There is no way that I would buy food or fuel here.
