“This cozy spot was an unexpected surprise. This spot was our plan B and I'm so glad plan A didn't work out. We all said aloud that this was the best food we'd had during our visit to Portland. We got lucky and we're able to sit down right away. We ordered the Garden Benedict and the Veggie Sausage Benedict with potatoes. Delicious! Their coffee was also really good (I don't usually like diner coffee but I got a second cup). To make everything even better, our server was outstanding. Her attention to detail was appreciated as we dined with a baby. She set my coffee out of baby arms reach, she brought extra napkins when she noticed our little one was getting messy, and she offered to run our bib under the sink. We will absolutely come back here on our next visit“

“We absolutely loved having our 55-person wedding at Bar Carlo. The owner Mel is at the same time very supportive and very low-key, which made for a smooth planning process and day-of event. The space is gorgeous, and has multiple connected wings, which allowed for the the party to morph seamlessly over the night from barside cocktail hour to outdoor patio ceremony to dinner buffet to dance floor. The space is already a beautifully decorated artwork, and Mel lets you decide how to arrange the space for your event, but you can also bring your own decorations/sound system/llama and she can handle those additions easily. The food and drinks were delicious too, and Mel was able to accommodate our entirely vegan and gluten-free menu without hesitation. Overall we loved the unique-ness, flexibility and good vibes of the space and the people of Bar Carlo, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cute and fun space for their wedding or other event. -Nicola & Lou“

“We were visiting Portland and were staying a few blocks from here, so we decided to try it. This was a Wednesday morning around 10 am, so it wasn't busy at all. Everything was very quick, and the prices were reasonable, which we definitely appreciated! I ordered an omelet, and my husband ordered the breakfast burrito. My meal was ok, I feel like breakfast potatoes can make or break a plate, and the ones I had were just ok. The omelet was a very good size, and it was pretty good. The burrito was huge, my husband definitely could not finish it but he liked it. Service was very kind, and we were in and out pretty quickly. Most of the menu had a pretty good price, and I would definitely go back to try something else.“

“Our group had a lovely brunch on Sunday. The service was great-informative and attentive. We all had various egg dishes. Mine was the chorizo hash. Mildly spicy with perfect eggs and potatoes. Excellent assortment of tea. Definitely a place to return to“

“A few friends and I get together every couple weeks or so to have breakfast, a couple drinks, and to sit around and chat for a while. We’re always looking for a new place to try and a Facebook friend mentioned this place in a post which is what drew my attention here. I didn’t really do much research ahead of time other than to give the menu a glance to see what kind of food & beverages they serve, and what time they opened. So the fact that it wasn’t really the kind of place we were looking for is on me. Anyway, it’s essentially a fast food style restaurant that serves home-cooked food. It’s 100%self-serve in that you order at the counter, pick up your food at the counter, get your own water, coffee, and soft drinks, and bus your own table when you leave. There are also no shades in the windows and when we were there at about 9 AM the sun was blazing in the windows and if you were facing toward a window it was quite annoying. Regarding the food, the person taking our orders informed us that everything they make is prepared from scratch. I had the country fried steak and so did another member of our party. It was very tasty and everything was perfectly cooked, but both of our steaks had a lot of gristle and were quite chewy, and could have used another trip or two through the tenderizer. I had a waffle on the side, and it was delicious, but was not warm enough to melt butter even though I picked it up as soon as they called out that our food was ready. I don’t remember what the other two members of our party had but they both said their food was very good. Bottom line – I think it’s fair to say that overall, the food here is very good, but overpriced given the fact that it’s 100% self serve. I think this place has the potential to be a great place with a few minor changes to improve the atmosphere.“

“10 stars! One of my absolute favorite restaurants the food is fabulous. Every time we are in Lake Oswego we stop for breakfast or lunch.“
