I was hungry after waiting at DMV for a long time. I’ve grown up in a deli for decades , have a minimal standard expectation and I was hoping for a decent sandwich. The tuna was not available so I ordered pastrami.First of all the bread roll was sticking to the wrapper, and it was the worst chewiest roll I’ve ever had, , I had a hard time biting into it! To me it would have been more decent if it was toasted. There wasn’t much meat on the sandwich either and I think it was pricey for what it was.I did complain to the staff, only because I was the only one there, and the young man was more understanding than the young lady. She just said sorry , I was complaining to the wrong person, and disappeared. The young man and I had a nice conversation and he did offer to make another sandwich which I declined, I just said I would contact the company to give my opinion and experience. I liked that it is a female owned establishment, as my mom was the owner operator in our deli and wholesale business. But I was truly disappointed.
I went in to order a sub and the staff refused to make a turkey and roast beef sub. They said I could only order it with ham and bacon, which I did not want. So I left and won’t go back because they weren’t helpful. Staff needs to be friendlier.
I got a veggie sub, lettuce was brown and the tomatos were soggy, in the avocado was black. Unedible
Home of what is possibly the world's chewiest bread, this sandwich joint offers processed meat sliced in store with seemingly fresh ingredients and a clean store. It's not a destination location, but if you find yourself waiting at the DMV which is located next door, then this will do in a pinch. They ask you for a tip before making your sandwich so set your expectations accordingly.
It was good. The bread had a nice chew, the meat was well-portioned, and a pleasant overall experience. The lettuce was a little old, but fine.
The workers who make the food do not wear masks. Gross. Will not return until masks are worn. They should be as mandatory as gloves for food prep now. Definitely kills the appetite to think of people breathing all over the food they make for you."According to the 2021 San Diego Food Handler’s Guide to Food Safety, food handlers are the number one cause of the spread of germs to food."
Sandwich was so damn good. And Trisha is such a sweet lady. I’ll definitely be back!
So glad I stopped in!I’m from the east Coast and having been looking for a place to get a pastrami sandwich like this for 6 years!! So good, thank you!
Best sub sandwich in town! I've been here more than 5 times and have never had a bad meal. They cut the meat fresh to order, and the bread is top notch. Friendly staff, plus the homemade potato salad is the bomb. I'd go here any day of the week (The Barrel of Monkey's is my favorite)
A cute little place with good sandwiches! Be sure to get the monkey sauce. Sub-wise it is kind of on the same tier as Jimmy Johns & the like, but for me the monkey sauce pushed it that extra bit further. Staff always super welcoming and nice.

Absolutely the worst sub I have ever had! I am from the East Coast and I don't see how you can advertise that, not even close. Asked for my bread to be toasted and it was so over done I couldn't even bite into it, also all the veggies I asked for were not on my sub. My cheese landed on the dirty counter and was still put on my sub. Seems employees need better listening skills. Will not be back or recommending this business. ?
Such yummy sandwiches!! Always fresh . Sliced to order , and daily fresh baked subs. Awesome ,friendly ,and fast. Not your ordinary sub. Thank you!!
Yikes, this was a hot mess. Seemed like everyone working there was brand new and had no clue what they were doing. I understand if you have new folks but usually you have at least one experienced person overseeing things, but this was the blind leading the blind. And they seemed like it was their first time making a sandwich in their life, this isn't rocket science folks. I also paid $1.75 to add avacado and what I got was them scraping a knife along the avacado skin and wiping that twice on the bread. What meager amount actually made it on the bread was brown. The bread was flavorless. She couldn't figure out how to get the lettuce to stay on the sandwich, so it was all just wrapped around the sides of the sandwich. It looked like she only added roastbeef to 3/4ths of the sandwich. Overall, it just tasted someone bland and off. A complete failure for $13. I don't blame the staff for this, this is obviously a failure up the line to train staff and lack of quality product.
Great service and delicious food. Love the vibe. ??
So yummy! The plaza itself offers a small variety of food, and monkey subs is hands down my favorite sandwich shop. The staff are absolutely wonderful and are always so kind. The sandwiches are loaded with freshly cut meat and crunchy veggies and flavorful sauces. 10/10 would recommend!!!
