A wonderful historic tavern with excellent food and beer in a beautiful area.
Sophia's send off to NY,NY was a blast....glad to see everyone !@
Love a good dive bar! This place is so welcoming and the back patio is palatial. Small town, no frills, but an absolute gem. Leianna is the best!
Yes they have video poker!!!!
One of our favorite places! It always amazes me that one person can be the bartender, the server and the cook! Service is quick, Leanne always has smiles for everyone, and the burgers are amazing!! Thank you!!
Been coming to The Alpine Tavern, albeit infrequently, over the past twenty-plus years. It is located in the middle of nowhere (or, more accurately, the middle of Alpine, pop. 250 or something). Put it this way: you have to make the effort to find it by veering off 99 on your way to hippie-ville Eugene or gentrified Corvallis. If you are in Monroe, you are almost there or just missed the turnoff onto Alpine Rd.
It is one of those places that I take out-of-town guests to show them something that isn’t tacky or over-thought. There are dollar bills tacked to the walls and ceilings, inside joke signs posted inside and out, and a rather nice (it once wasn’t that nice) outdoor area out back. The mixed drinks are poured well and the draft selection is perfectly fine. Never had the food. It is a place that is distinctly what it is and offers exactly what you would expect. It is also a place I always check to make sure is still open. Thankfully, it is!
It is also a place where, upon entering, you might get a brief look from the locals. Clearly, you aren’t a local. No biggie. And the service has varied from friendly to coolly serviceable. Again, no biggie. On a recent visit, with those out-of-town friends, it was just us, the bartender, a silently drinking fellow, and a couple at the video machines who clearly understood that it was 5pm somewhere. We had our drinks, they surveyed all the interesting items strewn about the place, and we left happy to have visited. Much like all the other times I have, again infrequently, visited.
One thing that has changed since my last visit? Last time, the mobile home next to the tavern was abandoned, with a spray-painted message saying “Mommy when are you coming home?” on the dented and dinged front door. It was funny, in that kinda’ tragic sort of way. This time? Someone tidied the place up. Progress and change . . . even in and around the lovely hamlet of Alpine (my tongue just bashed against my cheek).
If I lived closer, I would visit more often. But I don’t. Instead, I live in a town that once had The Amber Room and The Gables and other places that didn’t feel over-thought and contrived. So, I hope the wanderers of the world keep frequenting this place and keep it open so I can visit again in a few months . . . or years.
Thanks for another nice visit. Recommended.

Must.Stop.Here! Such a great little hideaway in the foothills of the coast range. From the road it looks small, But, it has a large outdoor area that is well covered, lighted, seated and tabled as well as an uncovered portion with a horsheshoe pit, corn hole, large jenga set, inside is pool, all free, booths and bar seating, a few lottery machines a digital jukebox. The food is good, as are the drinks. The atmosphere is fun and laid back. The locals treat you like a local. All in all a great hang you need to try, especially after a long day of hiking!!
