I’m surprised that this restaurant in little town can produce such a wonderful burger(Whistle burger), well the burger is so huge since it has two burger meat in there.
Franch Toast was okay and above average.
I also surprised that they execute “serve yourself” policy.
Outdoor is pretty during Summer hour and sunny. Many locals come and sit and chat.
Indoor is a very local bar.
I’ll say overall it was a wonderful experience dine in here.
Stopped at Whistle Stop expecting a quick bite on the way up to Mt Hood, left wondering if I should just move to Welches and eat here forever. Cozy, friendly, and the kind of breakfast that makes you rethink your life choices (in a good way). Biscuits and gravy? More please. Coffee? Strong enough to shake away existential dread. Highly recommend pulling over on purpose for this place.
Great spot for an honest breakfast and cup of coffee. Good music, great service, interesting clientele. Will definitely return on my Mt Hood trips
Not a fan of the good really. But if you just want to visit locals and hang out, t this is the place to be.
My wife and I stop here every time we come out this way to pick mushrooms. Food is great, booze is priced well and they haven’t played a song I don’t like. I love this place.
Awesome outdoor area was pet friendly. Local vibes. Great service and quick drinks. Crunchy fries and tasty burgers. Would definitely go back.
Some of the worst food I’ve had unfortunately.. Staff is really nice though!
I stopped by for breakfast at
this popular local bar and had
an interesting experience.
The bar had a few customers
as I sat down and reviewed
the menu.
I ordered two eggs, a sausage patty, two pancakes, and
orange juice.
The breakfast menu has
omelets, breakfast burritos,
French toast, and much more.
The lunch menu has burgers,
sandwiches, steak, salads, and
soup.
I received my order in about
ten minutes with no problems.
The pancakes were a little
overcooked, but were light
and fluffy.
The sausage had a nice taste
to it, and the eggs were not
overcooked.
You will find a classic bar vibe
with low lighting, lottery
machines, and a small ceiling
with a cozy fireplace.
Located in Welches on Hwy 26
on the left side if you are
driving toward Portland.
A nice place to eat in the
Mt. Hood area with friendly service, a menu with a number
of options, and solid food.

Don't miss this place on the drive. There's some great food places along this stretch of 26, but I went by for years before I landed at this dive. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside the service is excellent and the food is hearty and delicious. I've been in a few times for breakfast/lunch and it has yet to disappoint. Looking forward to the next visit.

Food is basic. Nothing fancy. I would love to see it cleaned up a bit. It’s old. And it shows. The staff is great. Really. It’s a weathered mountain diner that needs some TLC, & has a row of old mountain dudes drinking whiskey at the bar at 8am every time I’ve gone. I’ve been going here for decades & will continue to eat here. I wish the owners would invest some money into cleaning it up & fixing it up a bit. I’m sure it would pay off in the end & increase sales & patrons for certain!

We found our new go-to spot after mountain biking or playing up on Hood. The food was great, drinks were strong, and we loved the outside seating. Whistle Stop, love the name.
