Buttercup Ice Creams & Chowders

Stopped in Nehalem for lunch because the town was so cute. I got the chowder which was like a green Thai vegan curry which was great and came with crusty bread. The outdoor seating outback was right on the river with a few other food trucks. My husband was able to get the fish and chips he wanted from a food truck while I got my vegetarian meal and enjoyed them together in the lovely setting. Staff was really friendly as well. Perfect place to stop just check ahead to make sure places are open.

Best clam chowder ever! Definitely add the $3 extra seafood option. Also fantastic Vietnamese iced coffee. A gem! Sat out back next to the water on picnic tables

Delicious chowders- full of flavor and fresh ingredients, not loaded down with cream and thickeners. Comes with excellent local bread. Ice cream was amazing and very generous portion. Lovely setting by the river with a heated patio.

This was a very cute and charming spot. It’s a bit tight inside because of how crowded it can get waiting in line to order. No seating inside. The folks here were very nice and friendly.

My picks:
Vietnamese coffee was vegan and was interesting…def doesn’t taste what I am used to. It had some cardamom in it, which gave it an unusual flavor…

Vegan triple ginger ice cream with vegan waffle cone. This melted fairly fast but it was absolutely delicious. I wish I got a big one to take home.

Vegan Thai green curry chowder: I ordered a quart of this. It was alright. It had a lot of potatoes and broccoli so it was filling. I wish it had a bit more broth and it needed some Thai chili for more kick and it would’ve been great.

Overall, I would def be back because that ice cream was memorable.

The service was great but the burnt chocolate was beyond salty. My girls who are weird salt freaks couldn't even eat it. I'm not sure if someone messed up or that's how it is. But definitely don't recommend the chocolate.

If you are looking for traditional clam chowder this is not the place for you. Spent $25 on a large bowl to split with my wife. It was watery and had stuff in it I have never seen in chowder before. Learned an expensive lesson to ask questions when you are ordering something that cost $25. You may like hipster chowder and be ok with this place but it is not for me.

The chowder is great…4 flavors to choose from and all gluten free. The bread served with it is not gluten free. Chowder has a nice amount of real, fresh seafood. Lots of crab meat in mine that was claw crab meat.
The ice cream was not good. Not good because there is xanthan gum in it. There’s no reason to put gums in ice cream. To me cheap ice cream has gums. Gums suck up liquid. So the ice team ends up with a dry feel/texture. I had an ice cream bar and it felt warm and dry . Yes it didn’t drip on me, but good ice cream drips as it melts. I looked at the ingredient list on the other ice cream in the to go freezer, and they had gums. So I didn’t get more ice cream when I went back the next day. That said, if you like gum ice cream, they do have interesting flavors. Be prepared to spend $7 for a scoop.

It’s worth the wait! Best chowder you will ever have, Add the seafood! Ice cream is fantastic as well. This place is a breath of fresh air and very high quality.

Best restaurant I’ve been to on the coast. You can choose what to add to your chowder or salad and the ice cream is fantabulous!! Make sure you want to eat outside because there is no indoor seating.

Great place for those seeking some fresh seafood chowder. Every bowl is made on order, kind of like a ramen bowl, so it's fresh and savory. Comes with a nice wedge of fresh bread.
