In booking this property via their website we were completely unaware that Lodge Rooms do not have a private bathroom…..only facilities down the hall. (Also no air conditioning. ) Upon discovering no bath we asked desk clerk to cancel the second night and credit that night. The clerk said we would have to talk to their corporate (Aramark) office which we did with no consideration. They advised that upon booking we accepted a notice of no bath. They acknowledged that the notice is far down in the fine print. In the discussion with the desk clerk it was apparent that we are not the only guests that have been duped by the lack of full, readily visible disclosure. So, we spent one miserable night but paid for two at a very primitive property.
Very small, old cabin. Badly needs updating. Floor was dirty, had to wear shoes while walking around in the 10 ft by 15 ft cabin to prevent white sheets from becoming soiled when you crawled into bed. No TV, no cell reception, poor WiFi. Our saving grace were the clean sheets, decent shower head and the Pizza restaurant in Prospect that has great pizza, salad and hard cider. The gluten free crust is wonderful. The restaurant next to the cabins doesn’t offer take out. Pizza was decent even cold for breakfast.
Stayed one night here in cabin 16. I was leery because of previous not so good review but we were pleasantly surprised ! Room was clean, quiet, and the staff was friendly . It is small but had a large bed, fan and AC . We had a great nights sleep and had our own fire by the cabin to relax by at night . Would recommend!
We booked 2 rooms at 365$ each room for 2 nights. It was not worth the money and it is definitely not a “Resort” We had rooms 203 and 208. 203 was tiny with nowhere to hang any clothes, no bedside table as the bed was right up to the wall and right next to the door entrance. The 2 shared shower rooms were ok but had no hand wash basins so you had to wash your hands back in the room. The other room 208 was a lot more spacious, almost twice the size of 203 yet we all paid the same price. The whole place could do with a serious make over and I won’t be recommending staying here. Can’t fault Beckies cafe across the road as food was good and the staff were very friendly.
This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. I stayed at the upper room of the main lodge (above the front desk). Nothing like the photos. No AC, shared bathroom & shower, dirty all over, uncomfortable bed. So terrible and not worth the high price.
These are old style cabins. Ours had one full size bed. There is a full bathroom, small dorm room style frig and a coffee machine. The room was clean. The woman who checked us in was very nice and accommodating. The general store was good. No complaints except noise at times from cars on the road. It did have a small a/c and fan.
For over 2 months I have been trying to get my over $500 refund from this business. Ive been told so many times that someone would help and get to me only to have the constant run around. Ive been treated so poorly I can’t even count how many times this company has failed me. Ive contacted their corporate offices only to be met with no follow up or response. Ive had management PROMiSE to help me only to ghost me afterwards. This company is a joke and an insult to the hospitality industry (which I am also in) Such a let down. i loved going here every year but will never again, nor will I ever recommend to any of my guests ever again. For the 100th time: PLEASE RETURN my hard earned money! I am not OK with you keeping it!
We camped close by. The cafe was great! The store was fun, and the cabins looked cozy.
An OK "rustic" alternative if the accommodates at Crater Lake are closed. It's about 23 miles to the lake from this place. Reasonably well stocked general store and we did enjoy the restaurant across the street - Beckie's Cafe. Easy access to some hiking trails. Pet Friendly. But I was not happy by the surprise we got at check-in where we had to acknowledge on the check-in form that we could be exposed to I believe it was Hanta Virus. May have been some other animal borne virus. I was not given a copy of the form. This little gem was not disclosed on the website or during online booking. Oh and the cabins could really use a major make-over. Now that Aramark runs the place maybe this will change for the better. Bottom line, would not be my first choice nor would I hurry back.
We planned "our own" Oregon road trip including booking all our stays, never realizing that we'd be at Crater Lake National Park on Labor Day weekend. So, the end result was availability here at Union Creek Resort! Yep - totally basic but close to Crater Lake, with clean linens, coffee, etc., Plus, the big factor was learning about how the resort came to be/the history, built in 1922! The added "treat" (no pun intended) was Beckie's Cafe - another history lesson with good food and good people. If you're a "standard USA" hotel traveler - this is not for you.
The only reason to stay here is its proximity to Crater lake. The exorbitant fees charged by this place are obviously not invested back into the property. Our cabin #1 (and the one next door) had a tarp on the roof, presumably to hold off rain leaks. Most of the cabin was in poor condition. Finishes and fixtures were VERY OLD. Basically a dump. The bedside table had layers of dust on the lower shelf, indicating poor cleaning. The tension rod shower curtain fell down where a door had been previously, but no one bothered to remove the original frame. Luckily we had brought enough food since the cafe across the street was closed due to an employee not showing up. The Country Store in the front of the lodge had basic white bread and hotdogs and cans of tuna, but not much else so the options are to bring all of your own or drive a distance for supplies.
We stayed here when visting Crater Lake when our other accomodation was unexpectedly closed! It was clean, quiet and secluded. The receptionist was super helpful in checking us in. We had a full kitchen with a gas hob, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer. The shower had great pressure. All-in-all, it was what we needed. I would reccommend bringing your own breakfast as the restaurant wasn't open as advertised, and has zero vegetarian options but there is a small shop on site selling milk and cereal if you want something small. Location-wise, this place is pretty good for a visit to crater lake if you can't get a spot at the hotel on the lake itself. Nothing special here, but nothing wrong either.
This is probably the best and closest lodging outside Crater Lake National Park. It was built in 1922 and looks it. Cute, rustic but worn. We paid $225 per night for a small cabin with a small bed, shower with a refrigerator. I am sure they clean the rooms but the rooms are dark and will never look sparkling clean. Good on premise gift shop and store. Restaurant across the street is GREAT. I would stay here again because of it’s closeness to Crater Lake.
Rustic on the outside but nice and clean on the inside. Tiny kitchen. Coffee provided. Our cabin was accessible with a ramp, a wide bathroom door and low edge on the shower. No cell service. The Wi-Fi wasn’t great but it worked well enough to make a phone call and for texts.
. . . before renting one of the cabins here. It seems reasonable to assume these cabins were built to house the CCC back in the 1930s. To say the foundation was sagging is a bit of an understatement. Take your sea legs! At least for Cabin 15! Yes, it was the height of the tourist season and, yes, it was within 45 minutes of one of the most spectacular National Parks in the US. HOWEVER :-) , nearly $300/night for a VERY tiny cabin - maybe 8 X 10 for the bedroom and kitchen? ( I dind't measure, but it was quite "cozy"!) On the plus side, the bathroom was totally remodeled and fully 5 X 10 with updated shower and amenities. The kitchen was minimally supplied. It's a cabin for two and there was no more than two of anything. Some handy utensils MIA - like a pancake or egg flipping spatula. We improvised! :-) The AC was great! A plus for some and a minus for others - the area is totally off grid - no w-fi or cell service, so just be prepared. The hosts at the store were super helpful and friendly - thanks for the help in getting the gas stove lit! The setting among the firs and pines and cedars is really spectacular and right across the highway from the "mighty" Rogue River (Although at this point, it's more like a stream). We might try again, but maybe with a differnt cabin and maybe in the "shoulder" season?
