On our first visit to Johan we were greeted by Max and Kyle with warm hospitality, knowledge of the wine and of the land, but it was their authentic excitement and joy for the wines that told us right away: this place is different. In the land of top notch wine, it's hard to stand out. That's why I was surprised by the emotions I felt after the first sip. It wasn't just my taste buds, but my soul that was happy. The love and care that went into making the wine was very evident, in a way that I haven't experienced.Even though we live in Eugene, my wife and I decided on the spot to sign up for the wine club. The wine is extraordinary. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly and unpretentious - everyone there is focused on making wine and making sure everyone has a good timeAlso, the wood fired pizzas they do for special events have the impossible task of matching the quality of the wine, and they do. Everything I've said about the wine goes for the pizza as well. Amazing. I didn't know pizza crust could taste that good. Looking forward to enjoying many more of those this summer and beyond.

Hannah is the best. We got to see the very efficiently stored barrels including a Beckham amphora pot and an EGG. The tasting room is surrounded by white oak trees, all the wine is fun and summery but amazing reds 100% estate and biodynamic. We bought multiple bottles and will definitely be back!

If you ask me, Johan Vineyards has some of the best wine in the valley! It is 100% biodynamic, and estate grown, and they have some really creative varietals. In fact, lots of wineries in the area use their grapes b/c the Van Duzer Corridor gets a lot of wind and produces incredible flavor! All their wine is small batch and made with a lot of care. The service is super personable, and the views are dreamy. If you’re looking for a stuffy, grandiose tasting room, with a large-scale restaurant operation, where you have to dress up to fit in, this isn’t it. If you want a relaxing homey environment with a bit of backyard magic, come here. They have sheep and chickens roaming the pasture and their small-batch pizza operation uses a sourdough cultured from their wine and home-grown farm veggies! Plus, Anna’s playlists—as thoughtful as her table service—always set the mood just right.

Great tasting wines + best staff of all the wineries in surrounding areas (IMO). Anna and Hannah take their time in educating you about the selections and take good care of everyone's pups so they have fresh water. Amazing art on the bottles.Try their 2020 Jazzy Juice!

I was in the region recently looking to do a few different tastings at a few different spots. Once I arrived at Johan, I ordered some pizza and a bottle of one of their rose's and I was in heaven. Next thing you know, a few hours had passed and I didn't bother going anywhere else from my original plan. Great wine, friendly staff and amazing pizza. I'll certainly be back

I made a reservation for a day they said they’d have wood fired pizzas. Drove an hour and a half out with my group for an lunch and afternoon tasting to discover they’d “sold out” of pizza. I’m not sure the purpose of taking reservations if they’re not going to put an effort towards having enough of everything for their guests. As for the wine, it’s great. Unfortunately, they use one glass for the entire tasting and mine smelled like palo santo, so I wasn’t really able to enjoy any sort of nuance. The service is lackluster too. We arrived on a lazy Sunday where half the tables were empty, but it still takes forever between tasting pours (2 hours for 5 samples). The knowledge of the wine and amount of pour you receive is also a gamble, based on who comes to your table.I’d buy their wine again, but would never recommend visiting the vineyard itself. I couldn’t apologize to my group enough for dragging them out to such a pathetic experience.UPDATE: they did give us a free bottle of wine and comped a portion of our bill. That was an amazing gesture.

This vineyard was a treat. Delicious and interesting wine, accompanied by stellar artisanal pizzas. It’s worth going back for the great service and the seasonal pizzas alone. As expected, the Pinot Noir was superb, but the surprising treat was their use of Austrian varietals.

My partner and I had a WONDERFUL visit to Johan! I mean, first of all, who doesn't love a scenic drive through an oak savannah to visit with the lovely Hannah? Being midweek during late harvest season, the vibe was definitely chill and the scenery was delightful. (Even Morgan stepped away from harvest duties to chat with us. Thanks, Morgan!) But you want to know about the wines, right? Well, they are lovely and refreshingly different from what you mostly find in the valley. (Hello, Blaufränkisch!) We appreciated how the wines naturally reflect the terroir of the Van Duzer -- bright, structured and fresh. We were especially fond of the 2020 Pinot Noir, which we found to be spicy and with a good core of fruit. But above the wines and scenery, Miss Hannah brought the whole experience together so beautifully, telling us all about the farming, the winemaking, the AVA, and helping paint the broader picture of Johan. We'll most certainly return soon!

Spent the whole afternoon with Max and Hannah enjoying Johan and Cow Horn’s beautiful wines. The hospitality, quality, and thoughtfulness has been unmatched in the Willamette Valley. For fans of unique flavors and varietals, and appreciators of land stewardship. Not to miss.

The best natural and biodynamic wines in Oregon! Super friendly staff and a very beautiful location. A must try if you're tasting wine in the area.
