I do NOT recommend Mason if you are vegetarian. There is next to nothing vegetarian on the menu and the modifications necessary to make a dish vegetarian leaves the food tasting awful. I talked to someone at the restaurant before coming in to confirm that they could accommodate vegetarians and they assured me that it was no problem. Unfortunately all their cheese is made of animal rennet and the wait staff was not knowledgeable about the food or even what a vegetarian is so they were not able to make reasonable suggestions. I have never seen wait staff at a nice restaurant that knew so little about the food they served. I asked what kind of cheese was in the ravioli and the response was “I don’t know. It’s just cheese. Three types of cheese.” I wish they would have been honest and said that they were not vegetarian friendly so I didn’t waste my money or ruin what was supposed to be a special occasion. I also mentioned to them when coming in that we were celebrating a birthday and they made no effort to make the meal or service special. Even the meat eater of the group didn’t want to take his leftovers home.

Had a lovely dinner at this charming restaurant. Everything was superb including the best lasagna I have eaten. From appetizers to desserts and cocktails it was as good a dining experience as any in Portland and well worth the drive from Downtown. Look forward to returning.

We went to Mason for our first time tonight for my birthday with our almost two year old and 9 year old. The host, Lawson, was so attentive and made it a great experience for us. Food was great and the staff were so welcoming to our family, even with a crazy toddler boy. Thanks Mason!

My daughter brought us here, she lives in the area, we were out visiting. The place was booked for the evening, the chef set a table outside up for us. Beautiful evening. The chef recommended the lasagna so we ordered. They also had an outstanding wine selection. Tiramisu was the dessert choice. Definitely would stop back in.

As someone who cannot eat gluten finding this place was a dream come true. It is rare to find an Italian restaurant that offers GF pasta and if they do it comes from a box. The chef makes all the GF pasta and bread and it was DELICIOUS! I haven’t had lasagna in 10 years and I cannot wait to go back and have more. Bonus: The margarita was absolutely amazing and the owners are extremely personable. If I could I would give this place 100 stars!!

The food was mediocre: dry chicken and undercooked pasta. The waiter took our order and we never saw him again, why bother to ask how the food is if you already know it is not very good?…. With the many other Italian, why bother with this place?
