El Angel Authentic Mexican Restaurante Tienda y Carnicería

I’ve been eyeing the market since I’ve moved to the area and finally went in today. They have many good things there and it’s relatively clean.

I don’t believe I will return there though, unfortunately. I grabbed tortillas and continued to look around the store. I did find it off putting that there was a bug sitting on the packaging but figured with the weather it makes sense- and the tortillas were packaged to keep it safe from the elements. I noticed that the produce is sparse and wilting away which led me to question whether or not to trust the stores other items such as the baked goods that looked delicious.

Before we made it to the front I happened to turn my package over and noticed a slit in the tortilla. There was a living maggot squirming away in there. Honestly, I’m not one to judge for little mishaps because life happens but I was concerned that the woman behind the counter did not really know what to do and did not say much when she saw it moving.

Now, I’m an awkward person and was feeling squeamish so I walked out without buying anything but after reading other people’s experiences from eating at the restaurant, I’m thinking that there is a huge disconnect with upkeep and food safety.

I truly hope things turn around for them because it is a neat little place and could be super busy if a few things were changed!

Great food and very friendly service. Husband had the tamales and I had the chile relleno. This food is so authentic! It has excellent flavor but the seasoning can pack some heat. Highly recommend the guacamole.

The atmosphere is a storefront with cafeteria style seating/tables, but we met a couple who go regularly because of the delicious food.

I came here over the summer and had one of the best burritos I’ve had in Eugene so I thought, why not come back I was craving it. Me and my friend ordered the exact same thing, two beef burritos with sour cream, and we both had empty stomachs prior and didn’t eat anything other than a few chips after. Both of us around 3:30pm yesterday started feeling ill and ended up coming down with the worst food poisoning we’ve ever had. I threw up on the plane, and threw up again when I landed consistently until 4am. I still feel ill and it’s been almost 20 hours of illness. Always support small business and I can say the first time I had this food it was delicious! But make sure to double check dates on food and cook everything thoroughly because like I said I’ve never been so sick in my entire life.

I went here with my friend because she said she has had their food before and really liked it. We both got the same thing and about 24 hours after we ate this we both got the worst food poisoning we’ve ever had in our lives. I have been throwing up all night and have never felt so sick.

Very stocked, I would definitely return because I loved the bread they sell there and at a great price.

My friend and I love this place for breakfast. It’s amazing food. It’s like going to Mexico for breakfast.Highly recommended, and the new remodel is amazing.

This is the real deal. The staff was great and translated for me to the butchers. The carnitas reminded me of how good tacos can be.

For a white dude like me, this is a cultural experience. Good selection of hot sauces and spices to look at in the market while you wait for your food. Food was delicious. Helps if you can speak a little bit of Spanish, depending on who's working. My Duolingo Spanish was good enough to make it happen though :-) Super nice people.
