Zhen’s Chinese Restaurant

The food was excellent and prices are pretty much on par for the quality of food.
Atmosphere is rather dated and In need of a refresh.
Service is in need of some improvement. We stood around for about 10 minutes waiting to be seated, despite tables being open and available so we finally just sat ourselves and grabbed menus from the server counter. When we were finally acknowledged and a server came to our table, we requested tea. Appetizers and meat were both delivered and still no tea. Asked again and it was brought to the table. Our table had no condiments or anything, so I asked for some soy sauce. The server said there's only enough for 1 per table...? Were we not at a table? Ended up grabbing one from the table across from us as no one was occupying it. The cashier was rather curt to a customer on the phone (we were sitting right next to the register) and was acting put off when we came up to pay. When they ran my card the reader crashed and I was asked " Can't you just pay with cash?"... Luckily I did have enough cash to cover the bill but when I asked for a receipt I was informed that they don't provide receipts for cash sales so I guess dinner was on me since I can't provide a receipt for accounting.
Despite the lack of service I will return when I'm in the area again because the food was really good ??

Such huge flavor for a small town restaurant. This place is amazing! I always love going in here, the staff is great the atmosphere is always welcoming. Thank you guys for being in our small town with you delicious food!

I ordered take out, and due to using a cane for my recent surgery, the waitress offered to carry my order out to the car for me. I have never had any restaurant do this for me. They were top notch to offer to help. Excellent service

The egg flour soup was cold. The appetizer plate arrived same time as the meal did. But it was cold to the touch. No mustard only red sauce for shrimp. Request for more tea received a scowl and 10 minute wait. Not the usual experience and was disappointed

We have lived in town for around 15 years and Zhens has always been consistent and good. The staff are great and friendly. its the best value in town to be honest.

the go to spot

The food isn't the same as it used to be but it's still one of the best Chinese in st Helens. Bring back the original crunchy noodles and many people would be much happier.

All of our group was sick the whole next day, also strange atmosphere. I would not go there again tainted food .

Order take out once a week. Kung pao chicken is always great. Pot stickers are awesome. Service is always excellent.

We always order the General Tso's with pork fried rice. I have to say the rice has gone through a few iterations and used to be better. Now it can taste overly buttery and lacking real flavor compared to how it used to be. It is still very good and we always enjoy picking up Zhen's for dinner.
