My family used to live in Vernonia but moved a bit before COVID. Black Bear coffee was a regular go-to for great coffee, and service with a smile, a real Godsend in the early morning when heading out of town. My folks just moved back to the area and I was very much looking forward to a good cuppa on my journey back over after celebrating the holiday at their new place. It had been awhile! Things are very different now, with the original coffee house replaced by a grill and tucked away in an old storefront down the street. I waited over twenty minutes at the window for the two people in front of me to get their coffees, and when I stepped up, the server turned her back, walked out, returned with boxes and bottles of stock and started stowing them up on shelves and in the cooler. I stood there for a few minutes, gave up, and opted for a coffee from the service station down the street. She never once even looked in my direction before running out for stock or after returning. A simple acknowledgement that I was waiting would have been enough to refill my patience meter! It's definitely not what it used to be. I really miss the cozy, quirky, inviting atmosphere of the OG. The changes don't seem to be improvements.

The dark roast Black Bear Coffee is literally the best I’ve ever encountered. Please tell me
where I can buy the beans. We live out of state and are going through withdrawals!

Cute little espresso shop attached to a bar. Kids and i sat in the espresso shop and people watched. Coffee was awesome and it was a good way to pass the time.

Love coming here! Such good coffee and it’s a cute little shop. The chalkboard is always updated to the season & there are funny memes and sayings all over the walls. So many coffee options as well as tea and redbull/lotus flavors. Protein options & a on the go breakfast menu.

The service is a bit slow only because they typically have one person in the mornings doing coffee from what I’ve seen but it’s not too bad of a wait. I’ve had worse outside of town at Dutch bros/starbucks. If you come to vernonia this is definitely the place to stop for your coffee/drinks :)

Cozy dining room, friendly staff, and a rich chocolaty mocha. Certainly one of the best coffees I’ve had and a very reasonable price including a smaller mark up for whole milk alternatives.

Me and my friend rode our motorcycles over 90 miles to try this place (picked at random). Through dirt trails and gravel roads, slippery grass, and every other nasty road hazard of crossing the hills without the highway, AND IT WAS WORTH IT! The pumpkin pie chai was fantastic and the Barista was very nice to us.

Had the worst experience here! I’m all for supporting local but the moment I walked up, I was a bother and from start to finish it just progressively got worse. I did speak to the gal serving us once we got our coffees- to please be thoughtful and kind to future customers if she wants repeat business. I was told if she feels like someone is being rude to her she will be rude back and I asked how I was rude. Her card machine wouldn’t work and she asked If I can you pay in cash? I said unfortunately I don’t have cash and will need to cancel our order. She found that rude. It was baffling how I was treated.

Coffee stop with a lot of fun stuff to read and keep you entertained while placing your order and waiting for it to be prepared. Lots of yummy items for purchase to go with your beverage. Coffee beans and grinds for purchase are available also. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

I love love love this place. It’s quirky and cute, the coffee is delicious. I’m a little freaked out though, because I am pretty sure the mirror in their bathroom is a two way mirror (aka a hidden window into the next room, which has an “employees only sign”). I hope I’m wrong, but just want to give a heads up. I’ll be back for the yummy coffee, but definitely won’t be using the bathroom again.

Outstanding coffee taste. I have been a dark roast, black coffee drinker for decades. I do not often taste high quality black coffee. Black Bear coffee is one of the very best I've had. I hope you are still using the same high quality roast from the past. I live out of state and you came to mind when having a discussion about the best roasts ever. I decided it was past time to leave a worthy comment.
