Best pizza steak I’ve had in a long time. The menu states they won 2023 best cheesesteak from Mainline today magazine. Radio is playing WXPN and the jazz music was a nice compliment torte delicious sandwich.

After passing this restaurant several times, it was time to make a first and visit this joint. They have sit down or take out service so decided for the sit down service. My server, Karen was patient and honest about their food so ordered a cheesteak and small fries. I thought the steak was meaty, covered in American and mushrooms. They only offer American or Provolone. I loved the food and my only complaint is that the food is on the pricy side, almost $15 for a cheesteak and they charged $1.50 for the mushrooms and $1.50 for cheese. Most of my steak joints only charge $0.50 to $1.00 so it turned into a $24 lunch.
I will come back and visit this joint but can't include it into my rotation due to high prices. Employees were friendly and they just changed their rolls from Conshy bakery to Carneggy rolls.

Update: As you can see by the response from the owner, there is zero accountability at this place. It’s clear that they have no regard for health or quality. You don’t need to be an expert to understand that handling uncooked meat with your bare hands isn’t safe. Worst case scenario, Thunderbird is going to make someone seriously ill. Best to save yourself the heart (or stomach) ache and go to one of the many better cheesesteak joints that Delco has to offer.
I’ve been hesitant to post this, but after reading the defensive and condescending responses to reviews from ownership over the past year, figured I’d share my experience.
We ordered pick up on Thursday, August 1st. I arrived a few minutes and hung out at the counter. Everyone in the kitchen was wearing gloves, except the older gentleman who was cooking the cheesesteaks. I watched this dude move uncooked meat around the griddle with his bare fingers, then go right to assembling a sandwich. At one point, he asked another employee for chicken. The employee grabbed an unrefrigerated tub of cooked chicken. The older gentleman then proceeded to scoop out a portion with HIS BARE HANDS THAT HAD JUST HANDLED UNCOOKED MEAT and threw it on the griddle. So much for “meticulously weighed portions.”
Mind you, this was all in plain sight. God knows what’s going on in the cooler and the rest of the building.
I grew up right down the road from Thunderbird. My uncles worked there in high school. The place used to be a staple. Heartbroken at what I saw.

Got a cheesesteak and a chicken cheesesteak with cheese fries last night. Although the food tasted good the meat of the sandwiches were VERY skimpy. Don't think I'll order from them again

We had lunch here after our son’s baseball game. The hoagies and cheesesteaks were out of this world delicious! That roll… ?. Great food, great service, and the owner is super nice. We will definitely be back!
