We had such a great experience at Opal Rooftop! The place was unique and welcoming with good food and friendly employees. We thought the wind was mild and a fun part of the experience.
A tremendously great experience! Sitting outside on the roof patio was wonderful and gorgeous. The food- chicken, scallops, pasta was delicious! Services was excellent, per usual too!
The view and the ambience were great, especially as it started to get dark outside. The food was fantastic. Earthy flavors, fantastic mushrooms, loved the Toast and the Duck. Would go back!
Food and drinks were great but a little pricey. Our server only came around a few times and we ended up having to take dessert to go because we had been there 2 hours. Table behind us was incredibly loud and drunk, which took away from our experience. Views and decor were gorgeous!
This was my first dinner at Opal. Our server, Nock was upbeat, informed and helpful about options and selections. Due to the rain management closed all the sliding glass doors which caused the room to become too warm and by 6:30pm when most tables were filling, the noise was intolerable. There was a large group (10?) young women seated closely behind and their voices sounded as if they were screaming- not talking. I could not wait for our dinner to end. Management needs to do something about acoustics if the glass panels are to be closed. I would only return on a sunny, warm day.
First of all, it was Cincinnati Restaurant Week, so the value is outstanding because we got SO much food for the reduced price. Opal is a cozy place with beautiful views of Covington, Newport, and Cincinnati. The decor is stylish without feeling like it's trying to do too much and it smells heavenly. It is a lot of hard surfaces so it was noisy with two larger parties in the dining room. The host, bartenders, and servers were friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. Our old fashioned and mule cocktails were delicious and mixed just right. Choosing the first course of the prix fixe menu was tough; everythign sounded good. The smoked cauliflower lived up to the server's praise, but I would have been just as happy with the toast. For the main course, the salmon was cooked perfectly (my one objection in the entire meal was to the sour pickles in the maque choux, but those were pushed aside easily enough) and the ham was a lovely salty accent. My husband cleaned his plate of the short rib, which was tender and flavorful. The cheesecake that night was key lime and very tasty but I could have been just as happy with the chocolate tart, which had that rare quality of being simultaneously very rich and very light. We look forward to our next visit!
WE have followed , Eric, exec chef, for 7 years. His food is always cutting edge and delicious . Great food last night, recommend sharing as there are so many good tastes and combinations. Bravo, Eric and staff!
Felt like I was in another city! From the ambience, view, to the food all were above and beyond what I expected. If it would have been daylight, may have been too hot to eat on the roof but the in the evening the place was perfect! Seriously not many places in this part of the country impress me like Opal did. Will be back as soon as I can! Must try's, the Toast and the Chicken dish!
Fantastic experience for my wife's birthday. We got an appetizer, the special and another entree. Everything was so delicious. The specialty drinks were also great. They had a great dessert menu and we shared a couple different ones. Afterwards, we went onto the rooftop overlook and enjoyed the scenery. We took some selfies and our server even came out and took some photos for us. Will definitely be back
Excellent experience on all levels. Food was amazing (their chicken entree and cauliflower appetizer) were superb. Service was great! Their cocktails were well crafted, and the ambience is excellent as well. And the value to quality was excellent so we appreciated the pricing as well. Overall we do not typically write reviews however our experience was so good that we wanted to share. Enjoy Opal!!

Overall Excellent. Highly recommend it for the food and view. Only complaint was when we asked our waitress about for example if the scallops were prepares (Grilled or fried) she didn't know. Couple other similar instances where we would have expected the waitress to be better prepared.
My husband and I dined at Opal for our anniversary- it was a beautiful night and we started with sitting outside. When it got chilly they were very accommodating to move us inside as they don't have outdoor heaters. The service was very good and the food was great. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back!
We did drinks and dessert for a friends birthday and they were amazing! They also brought us complementary cookies for our friends birthday and we also ordered a couple desserts. That were incredible. I specifically recommend the chocolate tart! It is literally heaven.
Rooftop bar is lovely and we had dinner out on the roof. The night we were there, the elevator was out, so climbing the 7 flights of stairs was a challenge. Fortunately, it was working when we left.
Despite having two trek up 7 flights of stairs , overall good experience. I was in town for a conference beautiful evening to be on the roof . The server was fantastic - and the food was excellent by far the best pasta I've had in along time. If I ever come back I will be sure to visit again.
