Flip was such a fun little find the first time I came to the Erie area 10 years ago and remains my favorite restaurant. For a few reasons actually. In ascending order I'll start by saying it's remarkably comfortable in every respect. It's hard to feel out of place at Flip. All of the staff are friendly and genuine, the service is quick, attentive (but not too much), accurate, and on point. Your server will choose a unique coffee cup for you and not let it go empty. It seems like a small thing but having a meal out where everything is served at the same time, hot, and no send backs needed is a sauce that goes on everything. I like sitting in the Chicken Room. The real sell of course is the food. It's made with passion and love from the tiniest conception of a recipe to the time it hits your palate. I've been able to talk with the owner and chef a few times and it was readily apparent that she is filled with a joyous passion around food and Flip. The specials and seasonal items are always changing and bring anticipation and excitement to the regulars. Nothing at all is "typical". There are no corporate supplied microwave meals. No two plates look the same - every meal is a separate work of art, made with love, by someone who cares enough that they covertly watch you take the first bite, and sigh. I could not identify anything to critique. It was spic and span clean, had a convivial atmosphere even when crowded. Simply walking in, it's the exact sort of fun place you hope to find on vacation; different, jaunty, fun. The food is worthy of a Michelin star, which it would undoubtedly be awarded should reviewers ever be attracted to a town the size of a lunchbox. Well, now I want some. Meet you there for some watermelon custard French toast or a cheesy leek and bacon omelet with the absolute best home fries and some cinnamon flips on the side. We can sit in the chicken room, lose our cares, and remember that life is good.
