This place has great fried chicken but everything on the menu is excellent. It’s sort of got a casual fare vibe (and price!) with gourmet-quality food. A real gem. And it is local! The guy who founded the restaurant takes the orders, makes the food, serves it himself, and talks to the customers. Really worth making the trip.

This was my first time eating and Haven Local. We were looking for a late lunch and Creek Side market is like a mini–Reading Terminal Market, with a few eateries to choose from. I am so glad we tried Haven Local - the food was truly outstanding. I ordered an omelette with veg and cheese. It was plated beautifully. I assumed I might need salt and/or hot sauce but Tam, the owner/chef, suggested I taste if first. It was perfect!
The market has choices of tables and picnic tables, all indoors and airconditioned, which was what we needed on this particularly hot day. It was very quiet, which we really appreciated. Tam, was kind and personable. We ended up having a lengthy conversation because he is so interesting and accomplished. I would go out of my way to eat there again.
Vegetarian options: I am vegetarian and gluten-free. Though there were few gluten-free options, I saw what I wanted very quickly and didn't bother to look at the menu after that! I have no doubt that if I ate bread, there would be many options to choose from.

Their version of the fried chicken sandwich is unique and delicious. Incredible spice mix and a perfectly cooked chicken cut with the fixings and a soft potato bun. Worth the visit. As a bonus, a few feet away is a great offering of beers from the Cheshire Brewing Company.

The curry beef nachos were a well spiced and tasty yet different take on the Mexican classic. We particularly enjoyed the Sri Lankan fried chicken sandwich and the grilled cheese hit the spot which was served on herbed focaccia since the chef ran out of sourdough - a wonderful substitution that we were quite happy with! We can’t wait to be back and Tam said he changes the menu so we can’t wait to see what he has planned next!

Yes, I know we live in a world of over-hyped fried chicken, especially sandwiches. I'm always a skeptic. Every time someone tells me about a new place with "the best fried chicken," I think, yeah it's probably true, and there will be another BEST next week, and the week after that. Bottom line: fried chicken is always good if the bird is brined and juicy, if the crust is crispy and adequately salted. Haven Local gets that stuff right, and then elevates everything with the Sri Lankan seasoning. This sandwich is special, unique and perfectly prepared. The onion chutney is sweet, the pickles bring a burst of tartness, and there's just enough creamy umami from the herb mayo.
No, it's not Southern fried chicken, it's not Nashville hot, but if you're looking for variety, if you want something delicious that's actually worth talking about, this is the sandwich for you.

This eatery is located in Elkins Park near the corner of Montgomery Avenue and High School Road. They have a varied selection of food on their menu. We just got French fries and a salad to share. The fries were a good size and thick so you can get that nice potato taste. The salad was filled with fresh greens and other veggies with a great vinaigrette for a dressing. They have picnic rable settings and smaller table and chairs for couples. It shares space with the market and a square bar with stage for entertainment. I recommend this place for both food and drinks as well as the entertainment. I will be returning soon.
Brioche Burger and Chicken sandwhich were the star of the show. We also had the tikka egg rolls, and the flavor of it all was so rich coming back soon. Main chef knows his stuff!
