Really liked the old captain guss steak shop, when Gus was running things..cheese steaks had more meat for same price, used to go there all the time, but I noticed when the son took over, the prices went up and the portions of food went down, I'm lucky now if I order once in a year!

I just had a cheesesteak here for the first time. It exceeded my expectations! So good! I gave it 5 stars for atmosphere…not because it is grand, but it’s exactly what you want a cheesesteak place to be like. Local folks hanging out, waiting for their order, and workers perfect for the job, friendly and very busy

Wow. The best cheesesteak by far in all of the Lancaster area!!!!!!!! The fries were good too. The service is great and I will for sure be coming back as a regular to this great place.

It's a good cheesesteak and the fries are great. The steak has a bit of tomato sauce on it -- that's not always true on authentic steaks so be aware and if you don't want it, ask for it without. I love character filled places like this. It's not fancy and exudes authenticity. Service is a little slow, but for me that means they are making things fresh, not having it all 3/4 cooked in advance.
Stopped in for lunch and had a great meal..cheese steak was on point and the fries were fresh. The owners were very friendly and quick with the service..good food.. good people..Thank you 😊

I saw recently looked at the reviews and saw an injustice I feel the need to speak on. A dissatisfied customer referred to my friend Nick the owner as prejudice against black people. This couldn't be further from the truth. I've been eating there for years and I'm a black female. Nick is my friend and he has many friends of all races. I've been around him socially for years. It's time that people stop using their race as an excuse for everything that goes wrong in their life. As a strong, black female with many friends of all races, such inflammatory assumptions incite me. Especially if you don't know the person. Nick is a sweetheart who would do anything for anyone regardless of color etc...get it together Ms. Broadnax. Capt. Gus' restaurant is a part of lancaster city for years for all races. Nick, I'm sorry this one person gave you an inaccurate review and as a female of color who has known you and your funny and sweet self for many years, please know that you are loved and your customer service is top notch. Love ya and thanks for being my friend.

Everything is fresh and tasty!
I have been going to this place for many years and now that I have moved away, I find myself craving their cheesesteaks even more!
Nick and his staff are always friendly and attentive to their diverse clientele. It doesn’t matter who you are, when you come into this place, they make sure you are taken care of ASAP. Sometimes you will have to wait in line due to their popularity, but rest assured, it will be well worth the wait!
There is a reason why they have been in business for so long and it is simply good fresh food that is cooked to order – None of that prepared ahead of time crap!
And yes, I will be going back every chance I get!

I started working downtown Lancaster in 1973. As long as I can remember, this is my “go to” shop for subs, etc. I return as often as I am able to and the food quality is always outstanding. Many thanks to Nick and friends that keep this place going. Much appreciated!!

The owner served other people food 1st but we were there 1st. The owner also ignored me when I went to the register to pay for my food early. The atmosphere was very dry and I felt like I wasn't welcomed because I was Black. The looks in there eyes said volumes. I will not be going back.

I stopped in on my way home to order subs, but two men—who I wasn’t sure even worked there—just stared at me without saying a word. Since they were closing in 20 minutes, I told the lady at the counter I’d leave if they were shutting down because at this point no one had greeted/spoken to me, but she said it was fine. One man rudely asked if I even had an order, then cursed at the card machine when it wouldn’t work. To make it easier, I went to the ATM for cash, only to overhear them saying they’d lock the doors at 7 p.m. whether I was inside or not. If the subs were even half decent I wouldn’t be upset.
