I've travelled a lot and lived in many places, and this is my favorite café... EVER. The food, the prices, the atmosphere, and the service are unmatched anywhere else I've been. I truly cannot recommend Café Donira enough.

Last year for Valentines Day we spent it at the number 1 restaurant in the world Eleven Madison Park (3 Michelin stars) Sushi Yasuda (1 Michelin star) and the Campbells Apartment a beautiful speakeasy hidden in Grand Central Station..... Cafe Donira is a combination of each of those 3 top NYC establishments and so much more.
The Beginning: As we drove down a dark dimly lit road (that I had passed the first time) we prayed that our Waze navigation was taking us in the correct direction. You have arrived at your destination as we looked around in total darkness yet saw a shinning porch light and a well lit flag that read Cafe Donira. We were a little confused at first where to enter but found our way into to a beautiful decorated enclosed porch. It was decorated for Valentines Day fresh water with lemon and cookies were laid out to start the evening. There are two rooms inside both beautifully decorated one in green one in pink we could see people eating inside and we were about 20 minutes early for our reservations so we sat on one of the sofas outside and waited. A gentleman appeared and asked my wife if she was Russian yes she replied and they started talking in Russian as he was talking he started to take out a guitar (more to come on that later) all of a sudden another man appears and asked me my name and he is like I have you in the pink room please follow me. We sat down it reminded me of being in my grandmothers house I thought it was decorated just perfect it was quaint and beautiful. You are brought out fresh made bread and a dip made with sour cream and dill dill dill dill dill!! As we looked over the menu that first gentleman we met sat at the table beside us and started to play the guitar and sing in Russian! This guy didn't work there he was a regular and played and sung in such a beautiful way. I do not speak Russian only my wife but It was not needed to understand how beautiful the songs were.
The Food: We ordered and ordered so much that the owner was almost hesitant that they had prepared enough for the night but we knew we had to try everything! The mushroom julienne and Chicken fritters were great starters and we almost started to get full but had to power through to the borscht and Olivier salad both the perfect amount of dill and sour cream! Yes we ordered 4 entrees as well!!! The beef stroganoff and Pelmenis we're to die for we started to get full but kept trying to eat! Let's get back to the pelmenis they are handmade brought out and served in this clay pot and just perfect EVERYTHING is amazing yes I gained 5 pounds from dinner and yes it was worth it!
Looking Back: It is easy to describe our experience into one word "family". From the moment you step inside you are treated like family. The decor the atmosphere the other guests the owners everyone treats you like family.
Recap: This was an evening to remember. If you want an authentic delicious Russian experience come to Cafe Donira you may leave a few pounds heavier but I promise you will also leave with a smile on your face. A truly hidden gem!

Excellent cuisine, expertly prepared, friendly atmosphere and incredible nice host and hostess. Enjoyed every bite and really enjoyed the lovely little restaurant in a very cute cottage. We will return to sample more items on their incredibly different menu. I give five gold stars, would give even more if possible.... a local treat.. for sure...

This is one of the best out of the way cafes that we have been. We enjoyed our breakfast and visit with the wonderful hosts. We are making plans to return with family and friends for dinner. They get pretty booked. So plan very early. Best to call first.Update: We enjoyed a most wonderful dinner last evening. Party of six - cabbage rolls,salmon and beef stroganoff. Desert- blueberry pie. Everything was excellent and the atmosphere was cozy. Prices were very reasonable.

Yes the food was great.I had stuffed cabbage which were huge and delicious. Mashed potatoes real not instant. I had baklava for dessert which was also delicious. Have a great breakfast menu which we are going to try. Prices were ridiculously cheap. Just 2 people a cook and the waiter. Husband and wife. Can't say enough good things about this place. Highly recommend.

My daughter took me for Mother’s Day on Saturday to this delightful place for dinner. The people that own this restaurant are so gracious and full of hospitality! I highly recommend!!
