I absolutely LOVE THE refinery! Every dish, appetizer, drink and dessert has its own unique and distinct flavor! I’ve never tasted flavors like these anywhere else. Staff is super friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was a lot of fun! It’s my new favorite place!

I tried making reservations for my husband and me months ago, but they were fully booked through the holiday season. The first available reservation just so happened to fall on today—our 14th anniversary—so I booked it back in October or November without hesitation. We’ve been here once before and remembered it as a favorite, making it the perfect place to celebrate.
This anniversary visit exceeded every previous experience. The food was incredible, as always, and the service was truly amazing. When we were casually asked if we were celebrating anything special, we mentioned our anniversary without much thought. What followed was completely unexpected—the waitress and chefs went above and beyond, surprising us with champagne and special plates that made the night feel incredibly thoughtful and personal.
We went in expecting an ordinary dinner—a rare date night for mom and dad—and left with an exceptional, memorable experience. Being able to sit, savor every dish, and enjoy the atmosphere together made the night feel truly special. We’re so grateful for the care and attention that turned our anniversary into something unforgettable.

Waited two months for a reservation here , pretty much don’t really desire going back . Would have been nice if my lasagna rolatini was hotter than just barely warm . Would have been a nicer experience if we didn’t have the snottiest most pretentious waiter I’ve ever met .overall not bad but also not crazy about it .

We recently dined at The Refinery with my wife and daughter on a Saturday night, and it lived up to the hype. We had a later reservation at 9:00 p.m., which wasn’t easy to get—this place is very popular for good reason. Being open for only about a year or so, it has already built a strong reputation for excellent food and a great dining experience.
We started with a couple of drinks, and one thing that immediately stood out was the complimentary appetizer they bring to the table. It included beans, peppers, mozzarella cheese, and olives, and it was simple but very well done and full of flavor. We also ordered the focaccia appetizer, which they are well known for, and it absolutely lived up to expectations—fresh, warm, and delicious.
For dinner, we ordered a margarita pizza, which was excellent, and I split a pasta dish featuring pork cheek, while my wife had the pumpkin-stuffed pasta. Both pasta dishes were outstanding, well-prepared, and perfectly portioned. Every bite showed the quality and care put into the food.
The waitstaff was excellent—attentive, efficient, and respectful of our time. Drinks were served promptly, dinner came out quickly, and we were in and out within about 50 minutes, which was impressive for a busy Saturday night. The only thing we took home was a slice of pizza. Highly recommended.

We had such a great experience at The Refinery thanks to our waitress, Kristina. She was so kind and easy to talk to, and she made sure we had everything we needed without us even having to ask. The whole meal just felt relaxed and enjoyable because of her. We'll definitely ask for Kristina again next time :)

I live in New York and this restaurant is every bit as good as the Italian restaurants I go to in the city. The pastas were amazing, and every ingredient was top quality. That pine nut dessert....... rocked my world.

Let me start with the good, because there really was a lot of good. The Refinery in Pittston has a great atmosphere; warm, stylish, and comfortable without feeling stuffy. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the food that came out was genuinely delicious. Our table of twelve was mostly thrilled. Even the two of us who ordered the aged NY strip plain (no sauces, no toppers) ended up enjoying it, despite the kitchen deciding the plate needed a smear of sauce anyway. The waitress spotted the mistake instantly and offered to correct it, which is commendable, but the steaks were good enough that we soldiered on.
Now for the part that knocks this all the way down to two stars.
At the very bottom of the menu, in print so small it must have been chosen by a man deeply ashamed of his own decisions, lurks a 3% surcharge “to offset rising costs associated with the restaurant.” A noble cause, surely, but only discoverable by those in possession of either a jeweler’s loupe or the eyesight of a peregrine falcon.
They do offer to remove the charge if you ask. The catch, of course, is that one must first be aware it exists, and The Refinery has taken great pains to ensure that fewer than half their patrons ever will.
This is not clever entrepreneurship. This is not creative accounting. This is laziness wrapped in profiteering, tied with a bow of plausible deniability.
If the owners were truly struggling with rising costs, they might consider the radical approach used in every other industry on earth:
Do the math. Adjust the menu prices. Print the new menus.
I manage a business myself. We review costs, set prices, create signage, and if we miscalculate, we correct it; just not by slipping a secret surcharge under the customer’s nose like a card sharp dealing from the bottom of the deck.
Imagine buying a refrigerator and finding a hidden 3% charge in the fine print “to offset the rising cost of running the store.” Would you cheerfully pay it? Would you applaud a shoe store or clothing retailer for the same tactic? Of course not. Yet somehow the restaurant industry continues to get away with this nonsense, and we keep smiling as though we’ve been handed a gift instead of a bill.
Speaking of gifts: the runners repeatedly brought out complimentary appetizers “from the kitchen” due to slow service. We all delighted in the gesture at the time. In hindsight, here’s a thought—stop giving away food and perhaps you wouldn’t need to skim 3% off the top like a timid mob accountant.
Drinks took an eternity, specials were never mentioned, and yet despite those minor hiccups, I was eager to give this place a glowing five-star review.
But this hidden surcharge? It’s a betrayal of trust. A quiet shifting of responsibility from owner to patron. And it cost them my business.
So consider this a warning to all future diners:
If you must visit The Refinery, bring a highlighter and highlight the bottom of every menu at your table. Perhaps if enough fluorescent yellow appears, management will see the light they’ve tried so hard to hide.
