I was a bit disappointed. Definitely old school but not in a good way. Bland and in desperate need of an update. Service was great.
Easily the worst dining experience of my life.
The service was glacial, the decor felt like Antiques Roadshow meets haunted attic, and the food? Straight from the freezer aisle. Our appetizer was something I could’ve made better at home, the salad was a sad pile of iceberg with half a cherry tomato and a dab of ranch, and the bread showed up cold—after the salad and appetizer.
My surf and turf featured a chewy steak pretending to be a filet and a cold lobster tail. The only warm thing I ate was a baked potato. My husband’s steak was raw, and he spent the rest of the night nauseous, questioning all his life choices.
For $50 a plate, it was almost comical how bad it was. It ruined our long-awaited date night.
Save your money—go literally anywhere else.
First time at this restaurant. Located in an older house, it has a partial view over the Ohio. Interior was a bit rustic, like you might see in a very rural area like near a state park. It was quiet except for the four trains that went by on the tracks next to the river. Service and food were both excellent. My cocktail had a good amount of bourbon and was reasonably priced. Price was maybe a little on the high side. We will surely return.
Booked a reservation in advance for Easter dinner. We were sat late, half the place was empty. Seated at a table with no menus, silverware, or glasses. 20 minutes later, a speechless employee threw silverware on the table and tossed menus down and said “we only have ham dinner”.
Another employee said “we didn’t anticipate this many customers and we ran out of food”. It was reservations only, they should know exactly how many customers to expect?
I generally tried to be understanding at first with the slow service, as I appreciate anyone working on a holiday. But the whole experience was unexceptable and ultimately ruined family Easter dinner plans. Depressing and run down environment.
The service was so wonderful! Jesse treated us like Royalty. The food....amazing...it may not look so hot from the outside...but inside...awesome
We had gone to the Speak easy several years ago with friends and had an amazing dinner , they offered stuffed cabbages , and some other selections you don't usually see on a menu, so we decided to visit again after picking up our grandson from the airport, it was Saturday late afternoon , early evening, we arrived and we were seated immediately , there were very few people in the restaurant, which was unusual for a Saturday night, we looked over the menu , which was somewhat limited , but did have enough, had zucchini for an app. which was good, I had the Virginia spots, which were extremely fishy smelling , and tasted worse than the smell, couldn't eat them , they did offer to remake them but I couldn't even try anything else . my wife's filet looked good so I tried that , but they chargrilled the filet and it tasted burnt, I just thought maybe I'm being over critical, but she only ate half of it . Our waitress was very attentive and apologetic and did take the Spots off the order

Wow! A true speakeasy but don’t be fooled, the food is out of this world. When we pulled into the lot we thought for sure we had the wrong place. The only sign is on rte 65. Once you drive to the top of the hill it’s a gravel lot and a large building which may or may not have been a house at one time. We were not sure it was the wrong place.
We entered into a small bar area then down a short hall that lead into the dining room. The environment was nice and cozy. The fireplace was on and we got lucky enough to get the table near by.
We started with soup and salad. I had the tomato bacon dill soup and everyone else had the house salad with their homemade balsamic dressing and blue cheese crumbles. For the main course I had the chicken parm with broccoli on the side. My husband had the ribeye steak with mushrooms and onions and a side of broccoli. Our guests both had the special that evening, Chicken Florentine, one with side of pasta and one with broccoli.
I forgot to take pictures of our desserts but they were so good it more of an experience. We had pineapple upside cake that came with a warm brown sugar sauce. My husband had the crème brûlée.
Everything was amazing it was our first time and will definitely not our last. This will be a regular for us. I wish I could give more stars! I would be remiss to not mention our server, Steve, that was awesome. He explained everything and was there just in time to clear plates and fill waters. His outgoing personality made the night perfect.
Had reservations and seated immediately. Restaurant was not busy at all. Waiter was friendly but rarely seen. All the food took a long time. Our party had empty liquor glasses for a minimum of 30 minutes before asking if we wanted more. Stuffed pork chop was ok, the size was big but the flavor was just alright. Wife had veal piccata with capers. Very small portion and salty. My wife joked that the weight of the capers was the same as the weight of the veal. Not worth the $33 at all. There for 2 hours and 15 minutes and no desert. Always wanted to go. Sadly not impressed. I'll give it another chance. Maybe it was a bad day. Maybe

The food was good, though the menu is limited. They manage to do a good job cooking and preparing seafood. We look forward to going back again, though it will have to be an occasional treat as the prices are somewhat high.

One of the best places in town, been going for years. The staff is incredibly friendly. We always go for the filets and martinis. Try the fried cheesecake. They always have new specials.

Food, service, and atmosphere were all perfection. I ordered the lamb chops and it was by far the best I’ve had. Well worth the price and we will definitely be back! -The Saunders

I have never had a bad meal at "The Speakeasy." The restaurant strikes a rare balance, being upscale yet cozy. The portions are gargantuan so expect to bring home lots of leftovers! If you are eager to have dessert and started with an appetizer you should probably only eat about a quarter of your entree. Not even joking!Service can be slow so I don't recommend that you try to have a quick meal here. If you are desiring a long leisurely dinner with family or to spend a romantic evening with your significant other, The Speakeasy is the perfect place. My family often does birthday dinners here. There is a quaint and quiet patio tucked behind the restaurant. Great place to sit and have a glass of wine on a pleasant day. ?Most dishes come with a side (get the mashed potatoes if you opt for a steak or porkchops!). All entrees come with a choice or soup or side salad. I am a top-tier salad snob and the salad is lackluster IMO. They make absolutely delicious soups in house. ??They do have several pasta dishes but I have a wheat sensitivity (in addition to lactose intolerance) so I haven't tasted most of them. I do on occasion cheat on my diet and get the angel hair with pine nuts appetizer. It is outstanding!I had duck with cherries and rice pilaf last night and it was wonderful!
